I can't believe this. Just saw a video review on gametrailers, and according to those guys the singleplayer still has the same flaws that the previous games had, the multiplayer is solid but nothing more than an slightly better version of the one present in Halo 2 and the graphics are just mediocre, considering the platform and the competition.
Final score? 9.6 or 9.8 or something...
WTF?

Um, okay. I guess that was suppossed to be funnyMozgus wrote:
I've noticed this a lot with "untouchable" franchises. They essentially get a pass despite all their flaws. Noticed this too with Odin Sphere for some reason. I read a three page article on one site that listed more flaws in the game than any review I had ever read for it, yet the closing paragraph essentially said that it was a great action rpg that everyone should give a try. WTF? Are these people on crack or something?Mozgus wrote:Is anyone else noticing that the text reviews for Halo read (or just sound) like 6's or 7's, but then the score at the end is a fucking 9.5 on average?
You'll notice this too with the third prequel movie Star Wars: Episode Three where Annakin finally becomes Vader. Most of the reviews were VERY critical of this crappy movie, yet they all gave it either a high score or a closing paragraph that said it was a great movie that people should go see.
One thing I've learned in my nearly thirty years on this planet is to read between the lines. There's bullshit everywhere in our society.

I got a friend in New Zealand and he says its the same shit as Halo 2. But with a touch here and there. So we just have to wait and see. And Im with Mozguz what they say its for a game of a score of 6, 7 and the final result its 9 or 9.5. Its like they are afraid of Microsoft or something.

Yup saw that as well. The number scoring system needs to take a fucking hike, because it hasn't been used honestly in...ever.NebachadnezzaR wrote:I can't believe this. Again, I'm not a Halo hater. I liked the first one, but I am annoyed at a common thing I'm noticing in every Halo 3 review I've read. There's this general attitude from most of the reviews that the Halo franchise is the greatest thing on God's green earth, and that's not an exaggeration on my part. One reviewer referred to it as the reason the Xbox 360 exists. Really? One game? So is Microsoft just going to stop production on all future games now? Idiot. Another reviewer made Halo 3 out to be the great console game of all time.....I'll wait for you to stop laughing before I continue. Reviewers are talking about the Halo games like they're something divine.
They're...just...games....people. No better or worse than any other great game. It's this sensationalist sort of writing that makes me hate video game reviewers. It's like half of them are so far removed from reality, and the rest have the maturity of a 12 year old. No offense to any mature 12 year old reading this
Can't reviewers just be real? Stop the exaggeration, stop trying to sound cool, stop trying to sound smart, just talk like a normal person
Rant over.

Here's a review for you. Does anyone here read Clive Thompson? He writes for Wired, the NYT Magazine and a few other publications. He's hands down one of my favorite game writer and he doesn't work for a gaming site or mag at all. He has a column that runs every other Tuesday at Wired.com. His review of of Halo is up today:
"This question of balance, really, is why it can be hard to explain -- particularly to nongamer friends intrigued by all the Bungie hoopla -- precisely why Halo 3 is so good. Balance isn't something that's visible. It's a property of a system, the way that equality is a property of democracy. It's not merely the addition of a trillion-pixel explosion or a hot new gun."

And Mozgus, there's no number attached! (I like that idea, too.) I'd recommend checking out some of his other columns if anyone is interested in good (read: intelligent and mature but still fun and interesting) game writing.

Funny vid for the future of Halo. It made my day at work a little bit more enjoyable.

my brother in law has been screaming and yelling about it for about 6 months now.
I see him, he asks "you pre-order it yet?"
no, God damn it, the only game I ever pre-ordered was Panzer Dragoon Orta out of respect for the God damn series... and because the damn stores around here don't stock it on release date unless for pre-orders.
grrr...
Alas, I go to Wal-Mart today for a usual romp of boredom, give some blood, watch my friend pass out due to the latter... and busts his front teeth all over the tile in front of the Subway inside of Wal-Mart.
He sits back in the Blood Mobile and I mosey on over to the video game section. Hrmm... PILES of Halo3 are every where. What is a boy to do?
yeah, that's right... I bought it. And my brother in law is going to get his face smeared all over his 30 inch TV when me... a guy who NEVER plays FPS games whoops his ever loving day in a series of games that he plays religiousily.
oh the glory of knowing that even a monkey can own the saviest of Halo players merely by shitting in their own hand and flinging it at the screen as Halo3 flickers over the interlaced CRT.

Haha, Lord your posts are always so worthwhile.
My partner at work wasn't there when I arrived last night. I thought "Fuck. He called in sick because Halo came out." But no, he showed up an 1 later. He was just playing it all day, then slept from 8:30pm to 10:30 pm, which led to him showing up 1 hour late.
Which really got me thinking. I haven't had a game that affected my schedule in a long time. I always play a game, no matter how good, for about an hour. At that point I just want to take a break because I can't stay focused. As a kid, I could pull 10 hour gaming runs while feeling fine. The only game to drill into my sleep schedule for 1 night was Shadow of the Colossus. I just HAD to finish that game in 1 day. I couldn't bare to go to sleep without knowing the ending. I wish that experience could happen again, but I'd probably lose my job due to it.
