I'm just kind of wondering if many/any of the Racketfolk are salivating over this title.
Despite the marketing, despite the hype, I"m not finding many of my gamer friends particularly interested in the title. Perhaps, because, I myself am wholly nonplussed by this game, I tend to gravitate -- on a subtle level -- to other people who would be similarly disenchanted. The part of me that enjoys chaos and failure for the sake of chaos and failure, would love to see
this game sell about five copies world wide. Or, at very least, utterly underwhelm sales expectations.
Halo 3 and You
To be honest, I don't really care...
Haven't played more than the first two more than a few minutes each.
Until I play through the first two, I won't be playing the third.
(Same goes for the Metroid Prime series, which comes first)
That's just how my habits are....

I gave Halo 1 for PC like 4 or 5 installation chances, and it's just mediocre in every sense. I tried Halo 2 at a friend's, and it was just the same old shit.
This series became popular on marketing hype and nothing more. It got it's little kickstart as being labeled as a great game coming to Mac, as well as Windows, and then abruptly switched to Xbox. The PC gamers felt deceived, and couldn't care less about Halo from then on. By that time, news of the events had reached everyone, so "Halo" had been on everyone's minds at some point or another. Then you factor in that it launched on the Xbox with a bunch of trash, and you can understand the popularity at the time. Past this mark, I have no god damn idea how it took off. I would watch in awe at people all around me clamoring about this damn thing. I tried so hard to explain that there were so many games that did everything Halo did, but better. It frustrates me to this day, especially when I hop on UT2004 and see so few active servers.
Oh well. No use fighting it. I feel like this about so many more franchises besides Halo. Don't get me started on Guitar Hero. I'd rather play with a fucking Bop It. I'd look like less of a retard, in the end.

I never cared about Halo 1, a friend got into it and got Halo 2 at launch and made a friend and I play against him, neither of us liked it and we were fighting over NOT playing and finally talked my friend into plugging my NES to play Xexyz and Journey to Silius.
Maybe it's because I never liked FPS games much and neither my other friend or that my friend was much better at it than us but we got really bored after a few minutes of playing it, so I don't think I'll even bother with Halo 3

So the both of us make up opposite reasons for hating Halo. You hate FPS games, such as Halo. I love FPS games, but hate the bad ones.Pullmyfinger wrote:I never cared about Halo 1, a friend got into it and got Halo 2 at launch and made a friend and I play against him, neither of us liked it and we were fighting over NOT playing and finally talked my friend into plugging my NES to play Xexyz and Journey to Silius.

So would anyone agree that the Metroid Prime series is more interesting (at least from a single-player perspective)

I'm also 'meh' on it. Not much for FPSs in general. Never have understood the appeal of Halo. My cousin salivates over it. I would sit down and play through specific areas where he's like "oh this is the best" and I didn't get it.
Depsite the fact that I just got a 360 and that I wrote a story about Halo for the day job, I'm not personally invested in this game.
MP is OK, but to be honest I haven't made it through the first one! Damn difficulty spikes always turn me off. At this point I'm going to have to start all over.

Yeah, I'm probably about 30% through the first one (or was a couple years ago -- haven't touched it since). It has just a little too much running around and puzzle solving for my tastes (but that's Metroid), but I enjoyed the mechanics and the atmosphere and how well it actually mimiced the 2D games.

I actually enjoyed the Halo series so far. Played the first one on the PC and I really liked it. The graphics were good (a bit dated by the time the game came out on the PCs) and the gameplay was really nice. The vehicles were awesome to control and there were some fight scenes were you could see humans and aliens fighting all around you, with vehicles firing and exploding everywhere, that were really intense. The game had its flaws, though (don't get me started on the library level...).
Halo 2 was also good, but it had the same flaws of the first one, which is stupid, since one of the reasons to make a sequel is to do right what you did wrong in the first game. Anyway, definitely a good game, with memorable scenes, but not as good as most people say it is.
As for Halo 3, well, I'm also not particularly interested. Since I've played the previous games, I'll definitely end up playing this one, but I won't camp outside a store to buy it. The graphics, the gameplay, everything looks like a remake of 2 or something, instead of a real third chapter, and all this hype is making me sick.
