I'm not saying the controls are bad, I just don't like the controller. I'm looking at controller grips so that may not be a problem in the near future.
For whatever reason, they actually feel best when fighting bosses.
...That's weird.
Also, I think that Contra ReBirth requires the Wiimote, but don't quote me on that.
According to Wikipedia, it says Wiimote and gamepad. I'm guessing by gamepad the user meant Classic Controller?

Yeah, that has to mean the Classic Controller. I actually just read up on the new version that is supposed to be released to coincide with Monster Hunter Tri, and it looks like it would be a decent controller. I was going to hunt around for the old model, but since nobody in my area sells them anymore I'll probably just wait. As decent as the Wiimote is, I'm with you. I prefer the SNES style controller to the tiny Wiimote. :)

I beat it. :D

It was VERY difficult. The Easter Island head boss in particular gave me trouble, as the random projectiles from the smaller Easter Island heads made the battle pretty chaotic. Everything after that went by pretty smooth, although I did die a few more times before finishing the game. This is the first Gradius game that I've ever beat, and I'm actually quite proud of myself!

If you are on the fence with this game, give it a shot. Even if you suck at shmups, you can always play on "very easy" just to mess around with some of the power ups and get through the game in one piece.
