Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I love this. I hope that the seller takes it completely seriously and sells it to you for $30.

This reminds me of a website I check back on daily. It's full of emails that I almost always laugh out loud (Yes, I actually lol). The only problem is he only adds a new one every couple of months (reminds me of IG):

Nice, aaron. I've done my share of ebay/craigslist heckling in the past, but this is pure class.

Is there something I'm not understanding about your negotiating tactics here? Why would he sell it to you for $30 if you can sell it for $90 on ebay?

You make a very good point. All that research you did basically confirmed that according to the price guide he is more or less on target with his asking price of $100. And you know what, there are people that will pay that for a SNES and a few games. Don't ask me why but every game store around here sells just a system with one control for $45-$50 easy and they sell within a day or two of hitting the shelves.

Me on the otherhand just picked up another yellowed SNES from the thrift store for $5...
the third paragraph answers your question. it's simply NOT worth that much, especially to someone on craigslist trying to get rid of something because they need the money. perhaps i'm preying on people's hardships a bit, which sort of makes me feel bad, but not bad enough to really give a shit and not be entertained doing this.

here's another one. i got pretty smarmy with this guy after he got smarmy with me.

I put directly on the add not to bother offering me $30, especially considering Mario Paint by itself was $30 in November of last year when I got it. Please don't waste my time.

the current assumed market value of everything you have, over a 90 day period, as pulled from videogamepricecharts.com

Super Nintendo system: 42.52
controllers: 8.16 ea
Super Mario World: 9.99
Super Mario Kart: 19.70
Mario Paint: 0.75

since the mouse isn't listed, i did a completed item seach on ebay (found here: http://completed.shop.ebay.com/Accessor ... 283&_rdc=1) and your mean price of those auctions (for only the mouse and mouse pad, which you do not have) is $8.75. the highest price i have seen mario paint with the mouse go for is around $20. i am thinking you overpaid a bit.

adding all of these things up, your current value can be assumed (forgiving any loose contacts, worn wires, heat or cold exposure, dirt or other damages/imperfections to the console) to be $98.03. please keep in mind that i believe the website algorithm tracks ALL sales of consoles on ebay/amazon/etc and does not distinguish between those sold with or without games and accessories.

i sincerely doubt that on craigslist (a classified section with very limited viewability or marketing power, and to a very limited area, already saturated with similar items), you will be willing to find a buyer at the price you are asking. i do think it is a fair price but no one goes online to search for a 3rd-generation system to purchase from a stranger for close to a fair price.

i do wish you good luck with your sale, and if you find that you have this lot unsold in the next few weeks and would like to make a quick 20 spot, you know where to find me. hell, i'd even give you $30.

ps. what musical equipment do you have? i also might be interested in taking that off your hands for the right price.

You're just trying to instigate these people.
You know full well that is worth more than $20, and you knew he would react that way because he said in his ad "don't offer less the $30".
You knew he wasn't going to take you up on it, so you are just trying to get a reaction out of him for fun.

The internet isn't a high class Gentlemens Club where everyone is nice and fair. Plus, he is just joking around. He knows he wont get a snes for 20 bucks when just mario kart is almost worth that.

No need to be an asshole to someone on this forum who was just messing around with someone you don't even know.

Aaron's not being a "total prick" here. This is actually extremely smart negotiation on his part. See how he establishes an objective, 3rd party price through vgpricecharts, then tries to knock off a few dollars by pointing out that things command a lower price on Craigslist? This is as educational as it is amusing.

You know those Priceline commercials? Aaron should take William Shatner's job as "the negotiator."

Yup, at first you seemed to make somewhat of a decent offer, now you're not being an elitist asshole, just an asshole.
