These CDs don't have the black backs. However, on the back of each disk, in the center - in tiny font - it has the name of the game printed. "Final Fantasy 9 -- D1 [Disk 1]" To me, that seems professionally done, but I'm not sure if anyone burning game disks and selling at the flea market can do that. Maybe they can. Perhaps someone can inform me.

Thanks for the posts.
Chances are the discs are Hong Kong pirated. ESRB rating logos are not even used on older games such as the PS1.
You would be surprised how accurate over seas copies look.

You need a chipped PS1,
or PC Connectix PS1 EMU,
or Bleem for PC or Dreamcast,
or buy legitimate real PS1 games.

Look at all the fakes. Customs will be delighted to see you.

Even Mickey and Minnie Mouse gets into the act.
No DVD case means more can fit on pirate peg hook.

Effort to steal from developers and consumers. Better to use that thievery to help develop new software.

They are probably professionally bootlegged. In other words, it's not some guy burning copies on CD-Rs, but rather a full CD duplication outfit being used to make copies.

I tried to reply to this thread before, but by the time I hit submit, it told me the thread didn't exist.

Anywho, my aunt got me games from the Phillipines a long time ago, and they look EXACTLY like what you have. A store called 'Gamers' in Manilla offered 50 games in a spindle for $20, or in cd sleeves with at for $30. Of course my aunt didn't know that there was any difference, and got me all 50 games without a hitch.

All the games played fine, and were copied from an original disc which my aunt picked off their walls. From how she explained it, they had CD wallets everywhere, you pick the 50 you want, and they'll be 'right back' with your games in 20 mins. Amazing how organized commercial piracy is, huh? :P
If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

These also came in sleeves, just as you said. That's got to be the origin. Thanks for all the responses. Great board. I'll probably just end up using these as coasters or tossing them out. Don't plan on ever using them.

Best regards -

Don't toss them. If anything those "Game Station" covers are a great gag conversation piece, maybe leave in as part of your collection. Might as well try them, especially since riginal games now are out of print. Just know they are copies, so not much value. You could download a PS1 EMU for your PC and try them out. See if you like a particular game, and if you wanted to, you can always buy an original second hand.

Yeah I'd say keep hold of them, they've got a bit of value as an oddity at least.

Indeed. If you were eyeing them in a store I'd stay away, but they're already in your hands, so might as well keep them.

My friend used to go over to Hong Kong a lot and he used to bring me back a bunch of games for my PS1. They were professionally 'pressed' disc. IE the same method that real games are produced in. However they are totally unlicensed but due to copyright laws (well, lack of them) in China they can get away with it. They too had the name of the game pressed on the inside of the disc, however they were all silver or gold discs and you could see the data/audio track on them (kinda how really old CDs look, the ones that were around at the launch of the format) however the logo was (is it silkscreen? not sure what method they use to put colour images onto the disc) printed directly on to the disc. Very professionally done. He could get 20 of them for roughly £25 back then. No problems with customs on the way back because, to be honest, you couldn't really tell the difference between them and the japanese originals apart from lacking the hologram on the CD case.
