Actually it's not that unthinkable to me. Considering how the Galaga players do it, two and a half days playing isn't so difficult(I think the record for the longest someone played Galaga was seven and a half days). I wonder how many extra lives he racked up and how hot the machine got?Octopod wrote:Yeah, it is my understanding that you just practice and become good at the game(no shit, huh?) and that is the easy part. The game does not continue to get harder and harder, it plateaus and then these feats are a matter of endurance and focus and not a matter of being the best Asteroids player to ever live. Of course that is easy for me to say sitting here with no world record or ever having even tried.![]()
When I made my first post for some reason I thought that it had taken the dude 5 days, not 2 and a half. Still a long time to stay awake on your own but when I was thinking 5 days I was like, don't you start hallucinating after like 3 days?
Asteroids record broken after 58 hours of play.

Well, you can't spell Asteroids without Steroids.

A teacher once told me that going 24 hours without sleep has the same effect on your brain as being drunk. the guy had to be using something to stay awake.

I thought that only applied when driving, it's like being two times over the legal limit or something... (Can't remember though). I've had my fair share of 24 hour + gaming/anime sprees and wouldn't liken it to being drunk.Pabstblueribbon wrote:A teacher once told me that going 24 hours without sleep has the same effect on your brain as being drunk. the guy had to be using something to stay awake.
lol! Gaming are serious business.Testing for PEDs in gaming. This shit cracks me up!
Seriously though, that's an insane score. I wish we knew if he'd used amphetamines to stay awake and concentrate on the game for that long though.
I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes.

You might be right, it was a long time ago that i heard this. But staring at a screen for 58 hours without stopping, at some point your brain has to start turning into mush. I remember a story about a guy who played for 48 straight (it was at an internet cafe somewhere outside of the U.S.) and he just dropped dead of exhaustion. what did this guy do when he had to take a piss? pee himself? lots of questions. Id like to see an interview with this guy to see what he says helped him do it.

Ha! This is crazy! 58 hours?! I couldn't stay awake that long without some sort of drug to keep me standing.
That is quite impressive that he kept his concentration up for that long.
