I have mixed feelings with SEGA since 2002 they have made some great games like Yakuza that I really enjoy. I wish they would make Shenmue III but anyways while the Sonic games have been hit or miss there are some SEGA gems if you look. :D

I"ve pretty much either moved on to Valve as my patron game company, or decided to collect all of Sega's "Oldies but Goodies".

Probably both.

But they published and/or developed:

Panzer Dragoon Oorta
Rome: Total War
Resonance of Fate
Sonic Advance 1, 2, 3
Sonic Rush
Jet Set Radio Future
Bayonetta
Super Monkey Ball 1, 2

Not as good as they used to be, yes, but still capable of a few good games.

The "newest" console I own is a PS2. :-)

Yakuza was just awesome!!!

I have to say that i enjoyed some some of the remakes of the "Sega Ages" line on PS2 (all of which were only released in Japan).

Alien Syndrome (remake) for example is an excellent refurbished old-school co-op game. The gameplay is still the same, the updated graphics somewhat still outdated but nevertheless I had a lot of fun playing this one together with my pal.

Dynamite Deka (remake) is also great... I mean HELL, it even has the classic Saturn version on it.

So hey, I really see some potential in some of the remakes... BUT:
Most of the Sega Genesis compilations on PS2 I found rather disappointing... Even Sega Smash Pack (DC) emulation felt to be more accurate than Sega Genesis collection on PS2.
I don't know how that PS3 Genesis collection is performing though, does anybody know?

The Sonic franchise once the flagship of SEGA though is long dead... and there is no doubt about it. (they should have kept it 2d-ish... like Paper Mario...)

Perhaps it would be wise to from now on consider SEGA as just a brand and no matter how painful it is to neglect any quality standards we were once used to associate with that name and just judge each game individually.

I just beat "nights: journey of dreams".. I liked it. But i dont think its for everyone. I have to agree that sega hasn't really "done" anything since 2002. What new and creative game have they brought out? Too bad. I guess, well have to look at sequels and such...

With the end of Dreamcast, you gotta understand that SEGA was in debt, which is why I posted my reasoning on why fanboys should stop daydreaming for SEGA to come up with a new console, unless someone here is willing to toss in at least 1 BILLION dollars with no guarantee of any returns.

And as mentioned in that post, Pachter did explain the current status of SEGA, which is owned by SAMMY, which is one of the largest pachinko maker in Japan, and yet that hardly matters in a global economy, since very few play pachinko outside of Japan. With that, it means SEGA can't go overboard on budgets for anything, that means Shenmue 3 won't be coming out, unless there's an angel investor coming in with a boat load full of cash.

I do agree after Dreamcast, just saying SEGA isn't the same anymore, and unfortunately there wasn't any good Sonic games that stood out (Adventure 2 >>> Mario 64!). But I think it does take time to reorganize a company, and with the last few releases in PS3 such as Valkyria Chronicles, Bayonetta, and Yakuza 3, which have receive great reviews, it does prove that SEGA isn't really dead.

I would like to see SEGA revive a couple of their own franchise such as Panzar Dragoon (make it in HD and challenge Sin and Punishment!), instead of continuing Virtua Fighter, Phantasy Star, and Sonic titles (or make one that is GREAT and it can last a few years!). Again and again, I do wish to see SEGA as a company that releases GREAT games with an attitude or an edge, instead of a faded memory.

Is "long dead" a phrase you typically use for franchises in which new games are released frequently and each one is a million-plus seller? That's all without even mentioning a "back to roots" style 2D game being released in the summer that's also getting a ton of attention.

Dead to you, maybe, but otherwise far from it.

I wouldnt mind a Virtua fighter collection and maybe a some Saturn classics rereleased with HD updates or even wiiware remake.

People always moaned about lack of transparencies and ps1 to Saturn ports usually were always crap.
Although I can't say the Saturn alternative the mesh affect was a viable alternative to transparent polygons though.
Same as today when the other is used as the lead platform the other ports suffer

I would love to see a new panzer dragoon game. But it has to be GOOD, and not just a rush job. If its a rush job. Forget it... leave the franchise alone.

A pretty fair assessment I would say. The only original titles that Sega or their internal studios have developed for consoles that have been well reviewed post Dreamcast are the Yakuza games and Valkyria Chronicles.

Sega has managed to put out some good remakes/sequels to existing franchises. Panzer Dragoon Orta was very fun even though it was very difficult. Although not developed by Sega, I really liked Outrun 2006 and I was never really a fan of racing/driving games. I didn't like it but Jet Set Radio Future got pretty good reviews. Virtua Fighter 5 also got very good reviews.

There were other games (that I haven't played) that got pretty decent reviews like House of the Dead Overkill, Puyo Pop Fever, Super Monkey Ball Deluxe and Sega GT 2002.

Games like Nights & Samba de Amigo on Wii didn't turn out well unfortunately. Those I think were missed opportunities to reintroduce much beloved games that not many got to play since they were on Saturn & Dreamcast.
