Sega sucks since 2002

Post by norecess »

Do you agree than after the Dreamcast death, nothing interesting has emerged from Sega studios? They did not create interesting new licenses since that time, they are just bouncing on classics revamp they did in the past..

I feel sad.!

For the most part you're correct. There have been a few great titles to come out, but the lay-offs after the death of the Dreamcast as well as the lay-offs and creative restrictions which ensued after the Sega-Sammy merger really fucked up the company. There are some great titles here and there though such as OutRun 2, the Yakuza series, Valkyria Chronicles, Afterburner Climax, and Virtua Fighter 5 -- all of which are made by the same development teams which brought us the Dreamcast-era classics.

Don't forget house of the Dead. HotD 4 and Overkill by no means suck.

Panzer Dragoon Orta was one of the best games from the last generation of consoles

While I have to say I preferred it when they had their own console for all those great old Sega Franchises in one place. Such as Shenmue , Sonic , Virtua Fighter, Sega Rally Daytona USA , Panzer Dragoon , Shining Force etc etc.

They have released a few good games such as Virtua Fighter 5, Bayonetta and Outrun online.

I think Sega lost out for being the kind of gaming company us Sega fans liked they went from creating a gaming platform to being a multi platform company simply because they were the kind of company that we liked in the past. As far as I'm concerned the Sega Saturn was a great console that had great Arcade to home ports,
The best 2D ports of Capcom and SNK fighters.
The Dreamcast was absolute perfection when it came out as a gaming console with great the absolutely great line up of arcade to home ports and exclusive games.

I don't think Sega has or ever will be the same again because you have to change with the times.
Nintendo changed and it has made them successful as a business but being the kind of company that us Sega fans liked didn't really help Sega as a business.

Same goes for Nintendo many fans try to put Nintendo down for making less "hardcore" games but the thing that same "hardcore" crowd is what forced Nintendo to change in the first place because last gen they were considered the loser with regards to total sales.

Here we go again.

Saying Sega "sucks" is a blankment statement that doesn't apply figuratively or literally for that matter. They continue to publish games that are either decent or rubbish, like everyone else. They lack the "vision" and resources necessary to come up with a game that will change gaming as we know it and I for one don't expect them to, after the lukewarm reception suffered by their ill-fated Dreamcast. Enjoy your Yakuzas, Bayonettas, Total Wars and Sonic Racings or simply move on to another publisher.

Sega has made quite a few fantastic publishing decisions in the past few years. Their choice to publish Platinum games titles alone makes them good in my book. Even within the last month they have published Resonance of Fate which is a AAA title. We haven't even gone into the games they've developed.
