I'm thinking the FB thing will be more of a marketing thing and/or reminder for fans that don't always stop by the site all the time.
Every little bit helps, ya know :)
 Okay thanks!
Facebook networking is a great idea to gain exposure and get new members with their experiences and contributions.

Eh, I'm not a fan of MyFaceBookSpace, plus it's always being hacked since it is a popular destination and people put personal stuff they shouldn't on there. You or one of your friends post a picture of you doing something kind of dumb and forget to make it private or there's a glitch that exposes it? Maybe your employer will fire you. Awesome!

Ive always found social networking sites to be lame. I don't need to post updates about my daily life so that other people can tell me what they think; they don't need to know what I do; I don't need their opinion on what I do. But some people like it, I guess.

Two teachers in my area were fired for their facebook page. One was fired for a picture of him/her holding a beer at a wedding in a group pic.
One of the student's distant relative was a friend of the teacher and the student saw the pic printed it out and now that teacher is out of a job.
Another one was fired because of something that was written on his/her wall that he/she didn't even write it was someone they "befriended."
Our teacher union can't defend or help anyone who gets fired over facebook, they say that it's outside of the school so it's the individual school's discretion whether or not behavior on the interned can hinder classroom performance... Needless to say that I am debating keeping my account... even with privacy settings sometimes the fact that "it's a small world" may come back to bite you in the butt.

Wow, that's insane. I have a Facebook page, but I have visited it less than once a month in the past year. It's strange the union (or some lawyer, or the ACLU, etc.) can't fight the firings. Do you teach in a Christian school or something like that?

Nope public school.
The schools claim that any behavior outside of work that can cause a loss of respect will hinder classroom performance and that is why they can fire teachers.
I was offered a job to bounce at a bar once and an administrator found out and told me that if I took that side job they would not hire me back the next year. Their reason was that if something happened at the bar (like underage drinking and other stuff) that their name would be linked to me who would be linked to the establishment. The same theory could be said for facebook.

There was a teacher that used to work at my school who would frequent a local bar often. It never affected her ability to work, she was not a drunk she just hung out there playing pool and etc.
Anyway, during a conference she was called out by a parent who thought she was unfit to teach because of her always being at the bar. When asked why he new this he stated because he saw her there all the time. In the end she lost her, but he got to keep being a parent who spent almost every night at the bar.

Like Charles Barkley once said:
"I don't believe professional athletes should be role models. I believe parents should be role models.... It's not like it was when I was growing up. My mom and my grandmother told me how it was going to be."
The same should go for all professions!

Those are some fucked up stories. While higher ed has its own set of B.S. to wade through, I am glad I don't have to deal with that kind of thing.

I think I'll be joining the school board as soon as my kid gets old enough to go to school and make sure these kinds of loopheads don't get a chance to ruin the local educational system.

Ah yes, I remember reading about this, or some other teacher fired for holding a beer in a reasonable situation, as opposed to being drunk.
