ah, i forgot about Killer instinct. I got the worst cart ever with its pcb. Gotta find a good condition one.
I heard theres one fatal fury (dead heat whatever? cant remember the title) featuring Iori from KOF, probably getting it if I see it cheap.
there's two Fatal Fury games. Both were Japan-exclusives. I don't know which was which, but one of them had super-deformed characters (like what SNK did with the GB port of Samurai Shodown) and one tried to keep full size characters.
yeah, the screenshot i saw featured regular sprites

i just searched on the bay for them, selling at +15 pounds from japan :/

1st post :)
Talk of gameboy games has lured me in to these forums. I love the original gameboy, but playing and collecting for it seem a bit niche. Not many people seem to share the love, or appreciate the system, so I'm really glad to see gameboy discussion here.
Even Nintendo let the 20th anniversary go by without even a mention. I thought they'd jump at a cash in (i would have gone crazy for anniversary themed tat).

I find it amazing that even the worst Game and Watches can go for £30, yet rare and obscure gameboy games can be left on e-bay to finish with zero bids at a few pennies. I've been picking up gameboy games for 2 or 3 years now, and I still see the occasional game appear that I've never heard of.. and there are a LOT of good, obscure games. Cartridges are a good size for collecting, and have a baseball card kind of feel to them. You can fit a decent collection into a shoebox. Playing gameboy really deserves to be a more popular hobby, but whilst it isn't, I'll quite happily pick up bargains!

Essentials....
Best gameboy game of all time is Tetris, it's still the best puzzle game ever devised. I don't think anyone in the whole world needs to be told this :)
Other greats (many already mentioned):
Shadow Warrior (Ninja Gaiden: Shadow in the US). The music to this game is simply amazing. It's easier than the megaman games, which is a real plus as it means I can actually play it without throwing my console to the floor in rage.
Catrap, Mole Mania, Radar Mission and Fortified Zone, from the top of my head, are other games I like. Wario Land, Wario Blast, Great Greed... oh and the absolutely mighty Mario's Picross. Heiankyo Alien is a great maze game I finished the other day (I picked up the sequal - Booby Boys - not played it yet, but looks promising).
There's some nice japan-only games in my collection that I enjoy... Zas, Peetan, Cave Story, Samurai Spirits (nettou samurai spirits zankuro musouken - big improvements over Shodown. A real shame there was no western release), Noobow. Ninja Spirit was released in Japan but never came out anywhere else. Then there are a load of japanese games I'm still looking to pick up like fortified zone 2, burning paper, Picross 2 etc.
Anyway... log live the gameboy love.

I wish that I had been buying Game Boy games as a kid. I started with Colour, and focused only on Pokemon. Rayman and Super Mario Bros Deluxe were my only non-Pokemon games.

Recently, I was given a cart of Super Mario Land and that ignited a passion to go forth and collect all of the gameboy games that I have missed. For now, I am just buying up anything I see that is cheap and interesting. I am buying Advance titles as well; not exclusively original Game Boy. Recently I picked up Mario Land 2, Duck Tales, and Drill Dozer. When I get some more money, I'll get some more online.

I actually have the Racketboy GB articles printed out to help with my shopping.

I own Duck Tales as both the NES and GB versions. The NES copy still has the box (though unsealed).

Hi Zipper!

Agreed; the Gameboy doesn't quite have the collectors following it probably deserves. For now that means plenty of classics are still available under $10! But I bet the same interest now being given to the NES will at some point transfer to the GB. And you're so right about the small size of carts (especially if you aren't committed to finding complete, boxed copies) being very collecting-friendly. Especially the compact little GBA size.

Your highlights includes some of my favorites. :D Mole Mania is a charmer and so are all the Wario Lands. I have Heiankyo Alien and like the challenge of it, though the presentation is nothing to write home over. You must be in an exclusive club of those that beat it. I had Mario Picross for GB on my wish list for a while, but ultimately crossed it off in exchange for the upcoming Picross 3D for DS. Another fun puzzler you might check out that noiseredux hipped me to is Bubble Ghost.

The Japanese GB[C|A] titles are really intriguing to me. I have a couple of the cult favorites that get mentions in the various 'what imports do you suggest?' threads here and there, but I've always thought there must be dozens more sitting neglected with minimal text that would be real thrills to uncover. Peetan- I read about that one at this web page and I will own that quirky cart at some point. Burning Paper looks rad! I'll check out the others you mention.

Hope to read more from you in the future. 8)

noiseredux while slightly off topic, do you have any links to reviews or articles for games that have advantages of the Super Gameboy? Cant find anything decent and on your blog you had a mag on the Super Gameboy, anywhere I can get a scan of it?
