Essential Gameboy Games?

Post by KillemallCFH »

I've never really been too into Gameboy. I owned a Gameboy when I was a kid, but only had a few games, and the only ones I have any fond memories of is Pokemon Red/Blue, and Kirby's Dreamland 1 + 2.

Anyways, as a SNES collector, I though I might pick up a Super Gameboy and some of the good Gameboy games. I don't have any Gameboy games anymore, so I'll have to start from scratch. So, what are some games you would consider essentials? Some games I had planned on getting:

Kirby's Dreamland and Dreamland 2
Pokemon Red / Blue
Metroid II (never really played)
Zelda: Link's Awakening (never really played)
Whatever Castlevania games came out for GB (never played)
Maybe Final Fantasy Adventure and/or the Final Fantasy Legends? I really know nothing about these games except that they are the first in the Seiken Densetsu and SaGa series, respectively. Are they any good?

Thanks.
I'm known as ZebetiteGlitch or Zeza Von Thantos on other platforms.

I recently bought 'Videogames Hardware Handbook' by Retro Gamers, its perfect ten list for the Gameboy is as follows.

. The Legend Of Zelda: Links Awakening
. Bill & Ted's Excellent Game Boy Adventure
. R-Type
. Super Mario Land
. Pokemon Blue/Red
. Metroid II: Return Of Samus
. Tetris
. Faceball 2000
. Castlevania II: Belmonts Revenge
. Kirby's Pinball

Its a great read if anyone ever see's it lying around, tells the story's of most consoles, behind the scenes, why it worked, why it didn't and so on. Just got my copy laminated, want it to last.

Survival Kids
Mole Mania

Two unappreciated classics for the GB.

the GB Mega Mans are great collectables. But not many of them are actually essential for playing in all honesty.

For some reason I enjoyed playing the GB Mega Mans more than the NES Mega Mans. I think it might be because they are on a portable so I can play them anywhere, but it could also be because it looks more simplistic since it's black and white.

well the first one reversed the A & B buttons, which automatically annoyed me. But the later ones are a lot better.

Do you mean Dr. Wily's Revenge? I don't remember that.

EDIT: I just checked and "Mega Man Dr. Wiley's Revenge" for Gameboy doesn't have A and B reversed. A is jump and B is shoot.
