That's the problem though. Almost every time, almost isn't good enough. If I can perform them every time on a pad and then not every time on an alternate input method then the control system is at fault. Not me.

If you can do them every time on a pad, you're playing on too easy of a difficulty. Play someone on Supercade.net and get back to me on hitting a fireball every time. When you're frantic and every split second counts, you may not bring the stick back far enough for a proper quarter circle. I could probably hit a special every time on easy mode on the iPhone. Only the 6-button Genesis/Saturn pads and arcade sticks really yield better accuracy. I'm better on the iPhone than I am with an SNES pad. Like all other virtual d-pad games, you gotta get used to it before it feels natural.

What the hell are you talking about? Difficulty has nothing to do with my ability execute commands. It's not like a higher difficulty suddenly makes it harder to input specials... You are talking absolute nonsense.

Think about it: how long does it take to put your thumb in the right place, make the quarter circle, and do it accurately enough for the game to register it properly? In an intense fight against an advanced player, more often than not the need to rush the move will make you fuck it up. No one hits a move every time in an intense fight, there's just not enough time for perfection. If you're just standing across the screen from one another firing off fireballs, that's one thing, but play someone on Supercade.net and tell me you have time to calmly go through the motions every time. To use an analogy, this is similar to people that drag race and miss gears because they are trying to shift as fast as possible. Sure, when you're driving around casually, it's easy to put it in the correct gear and not jump the gun on the synchros. When you're in a heated drag race, you're much more likely to do it too fast and grind it or miss it entirely (go to 5th instead of 3rd). The iPhone isn't as good as a proper fight pad or arcade stick, but it's better than small/sticky D-Pads on most game controllers (like Dreamcast or Gamecube).

Dragsters use 2 speed AUTOMATIC powerglides.

I'd buy it for $0.99... unless Apple releases a nice controller dock or something that has actual buttons... I can't see spending more than $0.99 on any game that requires real buttons to function properly.

I have no problem with my execution, it's the strategy I fall down on, I get into ruts that are easily exploitable. I never said I was any good at fighting games in a competitive player vs player situation, I don't have any problems inputting commands and performing the moves. I still lose though, for different reasons, not my execution. I don't give a shit if some dude who's played the game for a million years beats me, that's fair, I simply don't have as much experience in the genre as he does, but my execution wasn't to blame. Far from it.

I don't play SFIV on my iPhone because I'd rather play bejewelled blitz while i'm on the shitter and I just don't like the input method. It's not accurate enough. Any d-pad is better than the iPhone's virtual d-pads.
