That's the problem though. Almost every time, almost isn't good enough. If I can perform them every time on a pad and then not every time on an alternate input method then the control system is at fault. Not me.17DaysOlderThanNES wrote:I disagree, I can hit fireballs and hurricane kicks almost every time. Dragon Punches are a little harder, but doable. still, I don't see why you wouldn't want to give Apple money, they're one of the last companies I actually want to support.Pulsar_t wrote:Who said I gave them anything? I bought my hardware at flat-rate price and the games are mostly second handImagine any sane paying for Windoze

If you can do them every time on a pad, you're playing on too easy of a difficulty. Play someone on Supercade.net and get back to me on hitting a fireball every time. When you're frantic and every split second counts, you may not bring the stick back far enough for a proper quarter circle. I could probably hit a special every time on easy mode on the iPhone. Only the 6-button Genesis/Saturn pads and arcade sticks really yield better accuracy. I'm better on the iPhone than I am with an SNES pad. Like all other virtual d-pad games, you gotta get used to it before it feels natural.Niode wrote:That's the problem though. Almost every time, almost isn't good enough. What the hell are you talking about? Difficulty has nothing to do with my ability execute commands. It's not like a higher difficulty suddenly makes it harder to input specials... You are talking absolute nonsense.17DaysOlderThanNES wrote: If you can do them every time on a pad, you're playing on too easy of a difficulty. Think about it: how long does it take to put your thumb in the right place, make the quarter circle, and do it accurately enough for the game to register it properly? In an intense fight against an advanced player, more often than not the need to rush the move will make you fuck it up. No one hits a move every time in an intense fight, there's just not enough time for perfection. If you're just standing across the screen from one another firing off fireballs, that's one thing, but play someone on Supercade.net and tell me you have time to calmly go through the motions every time. To use an analogy, this is similar to people that drag race and miss gears because they are trying to shift as fast as possible. Sure, when you're driving around casually, it's easy to put it in the correct gear and not jump the gun on the synchros. When you're in a heated drag race, you're much more likely to do it too fast and grind it or miss it entirely (go to 5th instead of 3rd). The iPhone isn't as good as a proper fight pad or arcade stick, but it's better than small/sticky D-Pads on most game controllers (like Dreamcast or Gamecube).Niode wrote:What the hell are you talking about? Dragsters use 2 speed AUTOMATIC powerglides.17DaysOlderThanNES wrote:To use an analogy, this is similar to people that drag race and miss gears because they are trying to shift as fast as possible. I'd buy it for $0.99... unless Apple releases a nice controller dock or something that has actual buttons... I can't see spending more than $0.99 on any game that requires real buttons to function properly.

Maybe you have problems with performance anxiety. I don't, thankfully.17DaysOlderThanNES wrote:Think about it: how long does it take to put your thumb in the right place, make the quarter circle, and do it accurately enough for the game to register it properly? You aren't going to try and tell me that that d-pad on the Dreamcast and Gamecube is worse than a virtual one on the iPhone. I like my iPhone and play a lot of games on it, but I definitely don't enjoy playing these virtual d-pad things. They are completely rubbish. The SF4 virtual pad is one of the better ones I've seen but it's not brilliant. It definitely isn't a patch on even the worse d-pads, like the playstation or 360 pad.

right, because no one has ever drag raced in a street car with a manual transmission.CRTGAMER wrote: Dragsters use 2 speed AUTOMATIC powerglides.

I'm a 2 time winning STX autocross driver, are you really gonna try to tell me what goes on in the autosport world?

If you're going to attempt to insult me, try not to be so stupid.
OMFG dude, play someone on supercade and get your ass handed to you so you can STFU. Anyone that has played against an advanced player does not hit every move every time, there's no "performance anxiety" about it. I wish you lived near me so I could smoke you in SF II and shut you up.Niode wrote: Maybe you have problems with performance anxiety. I don't, thankfully.

I can hit specials more often with my iPhone than I can on the stock DC or Gamecube d-pad. If you can't, I'm sorry you aren't that talented.
BTW, I beat SF IV for iPhone on Hard last night, have you finished easy yet?
Re: Huh... Street Fighter IV for iPhone is coming...
I have no problem with my execution, it's the strategy I fall down on, I get into ruts that are easily exploitable. I never said I was any good at fighting games in a competitive player vs player situation, I don't have any problems inputting commands and performing the moves. I still lose though, for different reasons, not my execution. I don't give a shit if some dude who's played the game for a million years beats me, that's fair, I simply don't have as much experience in the genre as he does, but my execution wasn't to blame. Far from it.17DaysOlderThanNES wrote:right, because no one has ever drag raced in a street car with a manual transmission.CRTGAMER wrote: Dragsters use 2 speed AUTOMATIC powerglides.

I don't play SFIV on my iPhone because I'd rather play bejewelled blitz while i'm on the shitter and I just don't like the input method. It's not accurate enough. Any d-pad is better than the iPhone's virtual d-pads.
