And the other thing.

All of these games need sequels, badly. There are still so many that aren't coming to mind at this time, though.
Have you even checked out the lame GS sequel and the abysmal cancelled Vectorman for PS2 before thissing this and that? And I'd rather they left Ristar a one hit wonder.

But we aren't debating what games had sequels or need sequels, aren't we talking about what Franchises should be brought back? I generally consider a game to be a Franchise if there is more then one or has spinoffs like toys, comics, cartoons, ect, ect........

which was the reason I mentioned a lot of sequels (prequels)

this thread may be used to inform of which games already have sequels/prequels, as well?

:edit

"franchise" might be a typo from my side; as I was (mainly) referring to "series", sorry 'bout that

Drag Wars was originally intended to be another trilogy back in the day. Considering all the things that happened to Interplay along the intervening years and how different the Bard's Tale 'revival' was, I don't see it really coming back. That being said, you should go check out Devil Whiskey. I haven't played it, but it looks like an awesome fan revival of that type of game.
I never knew Dragon Wars was intended to become a trilogy... a crying shame it didn't make it =/

I've looked into Devil's Whiskey, but that was.... 2-3 years ago =)

might have to get the latest updates on that one

thanks =)

I have a fair few:

Wonder Boy
Streets of Rage
Shinobi (although i suppose the PS2 games werent long ago, I'd love a new 2d handheld shinobi - it might be interesting in metroidvania style com to think of it :p)
Alex Kidd
Fantasy Zone
Panzer Dragoon/Saga
Space Channel 5
Jet Set Radio
Shock Troopers
Beyond Good & Evil (c'mon ubisoft, release 2 already ;_;)
Ice Climber - yeah, i thought i'd be different because everyone else picked Kid Icarus
Chibi Robo (actually, I know that there are 2 DS games, but I really want them to get a UK release :( )
Zelda 4 Swords - This would work brilliantly with DS to Wii connectivity, or even with just 4 DS thanks to the dual screens.

Let's see....

Descent - It has a lively community almost 20 years after the game was released, that's something.
X-COM - Best game ever and succesful franchise now dead after Micropose went kaput.
Microsoft Train Simulator
- The other games out there are not really good.
Lemmings - It has been too long.
Space Harrier - Not gonna happen.

I'm sure I'm leaving a lot of games out there.

Ah, and A-Train should give us westerners a release. And hope it's decent because it doesn't seem too good now.

considering how Ubisoft left Dark Messiah of Might & Magic to rot (due to *not* releasing an SDK), I'd be surprised if they come through on this one

I've only read "canceled" about Beyond 2, but I am hoping it will someday see the light

sure, it might *feel* like a Zelda rip-off, but it had so much character, a *decent" female-lead (whose main focus wasn't *tits, guns'n'swords*

here's to hoping =)

(Wonderboy in) Monsterland series *really* need to be revived
I've got the translated version of IV and not gotten through it yet, but it would rock in 2.5D

Ice Climber.... thank you for noting this
I'd say... good times, good times... but it was more than that

I heard the "climbers" are in the new Super Smash Bros though(?)
