Sure they all try to maintain their language and cultural identity. AS far as Caucasians trying to claim some nobility, I find its true. Everyone I run into that gets into a talking about ancestry quickly devolves into a pissing match over whose ancestors where nobility.

me:So Grandma came from Ireland, county Cork I think.

Them:Oh, my fathers side came from scotland.

me:My grandmother told me that one of her uncles was a prime minister in Australia when he immigrated. His brother was a policeman and was shot during a prisoner escourt.

Them:Oh yeah? well My Fathers side I am related to Robert the Bruce and the Mothers side I am related to the Duke of Earl so that means that I am of some partial nobility and your ancestors were commoners!

Me:You're over 30 and live in an apartment with delusions of grandeur and your parents, while my father is heading back to Europe for a 5th tour after playing in a successful band for 40 years...

Them: :o ....

I'm pleased to see that most of the people here are working on or are fluent in at least two or more languages. That's pretty cool.

Thats very interesting,
I thought they are at absolute minimum now with numbers in the few thousands scattered all over America, not to mention they forgot their culture and just got mixed with the others.

For the longest time I thought Steven Seagal was a native American. He looks like one.

Nobility doesn't count in America and besides I am in a class of my own.

I speak English and I have been studying Icelandic for a year. It's a hard language and very similar to German. It is one of the least useful languages in the world but I am glad to have a chance to learn a language I like and that is spoken by pretty much everyone in my grandmothers family.

born in Sweden, hence I know Swedish fluently

(född i Sverige, därvid kan jag tala flytande Svenska)

got a computer at an early age (Commodore 64); hence I learned English and having perfected it for the past 27 years or so, I'd say I speak rather fluent English

moved to Denmark from Sweden, where I mainly spoke English (4th grade), unfortunately not many kids spoke English, but I stayed there for 10 years, hence I know fluent Danish

(flyttede til Danmark fra Sverige, hvor jeg det meste af tiden snakkede Engelsk, desvärre så snakkede ikke särlig mange börn Engelsk, men jeg boede der i 10 år, så derfor kan jeg flydende Dansk)

had to learn German from 5th grade in Denmark and spoke it rather fluently for about 4-5 years or so, until an incident happened, where I refused to utter another German word, hence forgetting all I know about the language.... almost (keep in mind, I haven't spoken German for the past.... 17 years)

(Ich kanst Deutsch gesprechen, aber nicht so gut
Ich kanst Deutsch for verstanden, aber nicht so gut)

I took a French course for 2 years, but disliked the grammar, etc. hence I don't speak it.
