Essential Gameboy Games?
Re: Essential Gameboy Games?
Because they were listing games for the original Game Boy, they actually mention DX in the short description of the game.

I don't know if it has been mentioned but Donkey Kong kicked ass. I am talking about the one that was a port/remake of the arcade game.
Best use of the super gameboy has to go to the gallery series since in classic mode it changes the the original G&W pannels, or Wario Blast since its the only game I have heard of that is compatible with two players let alone four if you have a multitap!

yes, DK did kick ass. The first 4 levels are the original game. Then... there's 97 new levels!

I didn't really like the original too much. Super Metroid, however, is one of my favorite games of all time. I'm not really sure what I'll think of II, but a friend, who shares my opinion of I and Super, insists its a good game, so I'll give it a shot.noiseredux wrote:Metroid II is great if you like the original.
I'm not a huge fan of the Zelda series, but I did thoroughly enjoy LttP, so I'm sure I'll like this one.Zelda: Link's Awakening is fantastic. Think of it Link To The Past II.
Good to hear. How do they stack up in comparison to the NES ones? There's Castlevania: The Adventure and Castlevania Legend I & II -- all good.
Good to hear as well. I'll try to track those down.Final Fantasy Adventure is EXCELLENT. It was re-released as Sword Of Mana on GBA, but I prefer the original monochrome game. It's the greatest Zelda game that isn't Zelda.
Final Fantasy Legend (I-III) are all awesome.

Adventure is so so. I like it a lot, but probably more out of nostalgia than anything else. But the other two are a lot closer to NES calibur.

The low-hanging fruit has definitely been well covered in the above posts. Zelda, the Super Mario Land series (including Wario), Kirby and Pokemon represent the 'blue chip' GB picks. Funny to me to see Faceball on some of these lists. That was a game I had as a kid that, along with F1 Race, I pestered friends to connive a copy of their own for multi-player fun- and it was fun! Though looking back I'm not sure either of those games are really all that good.
I'd approach your quest a little differently. Instead of working through a list of gold-star'd GB games, I'd start to amass especially Super Game Boy enhanced titles like Space Invaders, Mole Mania, Tetris Blast or Wario Blast and the Game & Watch collections.

The Game & Watch collections are really good. I agree. As far as Faceball goes, I'm still in search of a copy myself. Oh and BTW, over the weekend I put some serious time into Mega Man IV, and I'm pretty sure it's my favorite of the first 4 GB releases. It felt awesome to need to jot down my passwords. Haha.

copy of faceball on amazon right now going for $4 including shipping. only in "acceptable" condition though, so a bit wary.
That looks interesting though.

Re: Essential Gameboy Games?
yeah it's not an expensive game. I just don't really buy a lot of games online. Most of my library comes from trades here or thru goozex. Other than that, if I find something I'm looking for at a reasonable price, I'll snatch it up. But I really only order a game that I'm "in need of" right away. Like something for Together Retro for instance. I mean, if I were to just order every game I wanted that was cheap online then I'd be broke!AmishSamurai wrote:copy of faceball on amazon right now going for $4 including shipping. only in "acceptable" condition though, so a bit wary.
