But yeah, I think the ps2 is finally out of steam. Oh well, great fun while it lasted. There's still tons and tons of amazing games for it I haven't even touched.
The January NPDs had it selling something like 35k or 40k, much lower than anytime in 2009 IIRC. It'll continue to stay on shelves for a while but I think you're right - the steam has truly run out. 10 years this spring (in Japan)... They were about right with that decade-long life cycle.

Hmm... Wonder if RB is ready to add PS2 guides to the site? I just checked and it's listed but nothing's linked. 10 year anniversary would be a good time ....

Looks like I'll need to import KOF:2002 Ultimate Match, KOF:NESTS, KOF'94 Rebout, KOF NeoWave, KOF:MI Regulation A, and all the other games they'll never bring over. Really need to invest in a PS2 Slim and a flip-top cover.

Just went to Toys R Us. Almost gave up, as all they had were games like Bakugan and Alvin & The Chipmunks 2 for the PS2...

... then I decide to look for some McFarlane toys and find the discounted PS2 games near the DVD section. Got Fatal Fury Battle Archive vol.1 and 2 for $5 a piece. Not bad.

Not a bad guess! What gave me away? =P

$5 is a great price for this compilation. I think I paid $12 for my copy, but it was totally worth it just for Neo Turf Masters. :D

So there are some other SNK PS2 games marked down to $5 at Toys 'R' Us? Are they clearing out PS2 stuff in general now?

Care to elaborate? I thought everything played just fine...

I know that some of the SNK/Playmore compilations get knocked on occasion, but as someone who has played my share of original Neo Geo cabinets and varying quality Neo-Geo emulators, I can't really notice much (if any) difference between the ports and the originals. As far as I'm concerned they look and play flawlessly on the PS2/PS3.

Part of me wonders if people who bitch about the emulation quality of these compilations are secretly upset that people are getting cheap high quality ports of games that they've spent thousands on...

Yep, that's exactly it (at least in this case). Of course having the original AES carts would be awesome, but this compilation is an acceptable substitute for someone's who's not a complete purist.

I think I read the most complaints about Shock Troopers and Last Resort. I grew up dealing with enough slowdown in 8-bit and early 16-bit era that it just doesn't phase me unless its really bad. I paid $20 for the comp when it came out, as long as one likes at least one of the genres on the disc they should be able to get more than $5 enjoyment out of it.

The emulation can't be as bad as Metal Slug Anthology's laggy input and random in-game loading.

I haven't tried it out, but I passed on buying it thus far because every review I read spoke about how bad the emulation was.
I have all that on my laptop anyway, but it would be nice to have on PS2 since I have standard def component in that situation.
