Am I the only one who felt its repetitive and linear?
You just moved forward , shooting enemies, and you had t pick pda's and lock all the time. Nothing much worth mentioning .
In Hell it got really exciting.
As a fps, the guns were really "meh" ...
It was fun and not fun, I am not sure how I got to this feeling playing this game.
I also think it has 0 replay value, I really don't want to go through it again.
How many of you visited martianbuddy.com :p ?
What did you think of Doom 3?

Ack wrote:It felt too much like Serious Sam with a lighting problem to me. I run into a room, and there's an item there. I know something's going to spawn when I step on it, it's just too obvious. Or I think "Hey, nothing's jumped at me from behind a door in a while," and at the very next door...you get the idea. After a while, it was just too predictable for me. And the grenades did nothing short of piss me off.
Same exact problem I had...in the end I never beat it playing EVERY stage I just got to sick of it....so I skipped to the last stage, beat it, and put the game back in a box
Yep, I know im the one ya love to hate.

I gave up after I walked in a room, the lights turned off, so I turned around and fired. When I pulled out the flashlight, I noticed a dead enemy and realized I really didnt need to be playing this game if I can predict the traps. Then again I am not really a Doom fan so my opinion is sided.
Re: What did you think of Doom 3?
The graphics were amazing for the time. I remember that. It wasn't going for hyper-realism, so I never expected anything but awesome monsters to kill.
I bought Doom 3 and Half-life 2 around the same time... Gotta say, despite what I expected, I enjoyed Doom 3 much more. The gameplay was more interesting to play because of the utter simplicity of the game: scariness and lots of shooting. Half-life 2, in my opinion, wasn't as good as the first Half-life... I didn't really care about the story too much.
I liked Doom 3 a lot and I still do to this day. One of my favorite shooters.

I thought it sucked. It was fucking slow and boring. Doom went from the fast paced, frantic demon slaughter to this slow-paced horror failure. I didn't get very far into it since I uninstalled it after about an hour or two of game play. Shit, the multiplayer was bad, too. Quake 3 was much faster, you spawned with a machine gun (in D3 you just had that POS pistol), and the maps are better.

Half-life 2 got great reviews, but I thought it was boring, it got exciting at times. I completed the game, started the the expansion(360 orange box) but I couldn't finish it. Just too much walking for an FPS. The motorcycle/hoover part at the beginning of the game was too boring.Beak wrote:The graphics were amazing for the time. I remember that. +1...thats another thing I couldnt stand...how did doom go from me holding shift and running like a mad man...to feeling like I was crawling on my hands and knees all due to story and surroundings.

Exactly why I've still never finished Doom 3. Here's hoping Doom 4 will be a lot more like the first ones.lost_within wrote:GSZX1337 wrote:I thought it sucked. It was fucking slow and boring. Re: What did you think of Doom 3?
I remember than when it was released it was such a huge jump, it was the first game in a new era and everyone was struggling to get a computer that could run it. I remember a lot of jokes about installing 10 crossfire cards and that it was going to be so huge, you would need hundreds of diskettes to fit it
Other than that, it simply lacks in level design, feeling slow. It's not bad by any means but not very good either.
I got lost so I stopped playing. Also the difficulty levels were pretty bad, I tried to play on Hard hopping to see more enemies and all I got was zombies that didn't die after three headshots. Not hard, just tiring.
