This if funny,
I bought this game back in like 2004 or even 03 pirated on 3 CDs, but I never got to play it until a week ago because I never had the hardware to run it.
Back then I just bought an imac , which does NOT run it, and I had a lousy laptop that had hiccups running it like crazy.
***Spoilers***
I am confused by this game, this is the only game up until now that felt its good and bad at the same time. I didn't feel like its doom except at the end when you go to hell. I know that darkness can make it exciting, but sometimes its your gun in the middle of a black screen, damn. The game felt fun to play but boring in the same time I can't understand this. I also had no idea what is the story other than this guy goes to Mars and some monsters are coming from a Hell portal then you have to get a cube that kills them from Hell even though I watched all the scenes and read the emails and all that. I had no idea whats the evil doctor doing and when did he started to be the bad guy, I thought the guy with the goatee was the bad guy.
THe guns are weird, they look varied but weak at the same time. You hardly need to use them. Whats the use of adding fists to the game? You can't punch monsters. Hand grenades are hardly used. The coolest weapon is the cube where it kills an enemy and gives you its life. That was fun.
Last thing is graphics. What did you think of the graphics. This was released in the end of 2004, the gamespot review guy could not stop praising the graphics, that was close enough to the 360 launch. I dunno I thought other games had better graphics from the same era like Ninja Gaiden for example. The characters were very plain, like they were incomplete 3D models , or they have been done on a '92 computer.
What did you think of Doom 3?
Re: What did you think of Doom 3?
I found it to be an entertaining, atmospheric and tense shooter. I don't think it deserved to get slammed as much as it did but it filled that post-Halo void quite well on the Xbox.

Re: What did you think of Doom 3?
I enjoyed Doom 3 on Xbox very much. It was actually one of the reasons I picked up an original Xbox, since I didn't have the money at the time to build a PC that could run it. I enjoyed the tense atmosphere of the game and I thought it had pretty solid pacing and gameplay overall.
Re: What did you think of Doom 3?
I hated it for constantly hiding enemies that always seemed to appear behind you. Also the flashlight or gun gimmick really felt like a cheap way to add tension.
Also when i think doom i think a lot of enemies and plenty of ammo. Not dark corridors and limited ammo.

Re: What did you think of Doom 3?
I think what was most notable about Doom 3 was the fact that the engine scales VERY well. I remember playing it on a Geforce MX440 (this was a piece of shit back when it was current) with an Athlon XP 2800. It still had the full shadow and dynamic lighting system and ran quite well at 1024x768. When I tried it on my 6800GT I didn't really notice that much difference in the engine apart from sharper textures.

I actually just beat this the other day. I had gotten it the day it came out and just put it in the xbox for the first time 2 weeks ago. I thought the game was kind of boring there really didn't seem to be enough enemies for the length of the game.
Re: What did you think of Doom 3?
Quake 4 is a much better use of the Doom 3 engine.

Re: What did you think of Doom 3?
The PC version is the way to go in my opinion. You can add mods that will allow you to have a flashlight attached to your gun, if you want to retain the suspense of not being able to see anything. Or you can just brighten the game in general, which lowers to tension but makes the 100% more playable. It is still a fast paced shooter and it is still fun, but not scary.
I personally like being scared so the flashlight mounted on the gun mod is the way I prefer it.

The clever use of lighting and surround sound kept me on my toes the first half of the game but as you progressed you discovered a severe lack of variety in the environments. Corridor fps games aren't that great anymore.

It felt too much like Serious Sam with a lighting problem to me. I run into a room, and there's an item there. I know something's going to spawn when I step on it, it's just too obvious. Or I think "Hey, nothing's jumped at me from behind a door in a while," and at the very next door...you get the idea. After a while, it was just too predictable for me. And the grenades did nothing short of piss me off.
