I finished watching EVA a while ago, and I was fairly pleased with the show. It didn't turn out to be as amazing as I hoped, but it was still better than your average anime. I watched it to the end, and that's saying something; I rarely ever watch shows to the end.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:WOO!Unleaded Logic wrote:Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Evangelion.
Love that series, watched it years ago, rewatched the movie remakes from a awhile ago and just watched You Are Not Alone. Great stuff!
Always awesome to meet another Eva fan.
Now if only EVA 2.0 would either come out on fucking DVD to get ripped and subbed or get some sort US theatrical release that I would trek to the theater to see.
I need some new anime shows to watch...

Eva is rediculously overhyped. That's not to say it isn't a great show. But at this point it's achieved a level of renoun that cannot be attained by mortal productions.lisalover1 wrote:I finished watching EVA a while ago, and I was fairly pleased with the show. It's all about who and where you were when you first watched it, after all EVA is a coming of age story that shows off the dark side of the human psyche.MrPopo wrote:Eva is rediculously overhyped. I was 13 and right on the verge of my 14th birthday, going through a small depression at the time and lack a father. It felt instantly relateable compared to most other Animes I had seen at the time or since (Minus the giant bio-mechanical robots and crazed alien invaders) and really struck a cord with me.

Re: I need some new anime shows to watch...
I've been re-watching One Piece lately. In Skypea right now. I love it cause it has a really huge backstory, a detailed and rich world and lovable characters be they the protagonists or ... well anyone. More work/character goes into an one piece minor character than most other manga/anime give to their protagonist's (why does Naruto want to be hokage again?).
Also it feels like a big adventure and every new place the characters visit, you feel like adventuring with them. Of course it is in no way serious, but it's great entertainment.

What was wrong with School Days' conclusion?MrPopo wrote: Its conclusion can't be as polarizing as School Days's conclusion.

I always wanted to watch one piece from having read the first few comics. I liked how loud and crazy it was. A friend told me it was over 400 episdodes or something which scared me off. Is there a lot of filler in it?ZeroAX wrote:I've been re-watching One Piece lately. In Skypea right now. I was also scared off because of that. And no, there isn't a lot of filler. Hardly any at all.(-_-) wrote: I always wanted to watch one piece from having read the first few comics. Which further scared me off. It's great that there is no filler, but it'll take me years to catch up if there aren't any episodes I can skip.
Re: I need some new anime shows to watch...
Do you guys watch it subbed? I'm just watching the funimation uncut version right now, they're cranking them out at about 8 episodes a month. On the bright side, I'm all caught up and I won't ever really have to power through huge batches of episodes to finally catch up. On the downside, it'll take more than 3 years for the dub to catch up to where the original is right now.the7k wrote:I was also scared off because of that. And no, there isn't a lot of filler. Also, I'm a dub fan so that's by far the biggest factor for me.

as you can see there are hardly any fillers at all (unlike another anime which took a 2 year filler break ffs). the pacing is really good.
Don't let it scare you. One Piece has 3 great advantages.
1) It takes it's time to develop it's characters and settings. I know this might bore some people who watch anime just for the fights, but I consider it it's greatest strength. Because it makes you care about the story and what happens to people beyond the main cast.
2) Oda has the story amazingly planed out. What I mean something that was referenced in 2000 became true in 2008. Or you see small details to the plot become important many episodes later. It gives one piece a feeling of grandness, that this is an epic story, a huge adventure of how this guy becomes the pirate king and how he influences the world around him. And it's because of point 1 that you get that. Oda showed you how the world is before Luffy and he then showed you how Luffy affected it.
3) It starts out ok and gets better and better and better and better.
The truth is the first 30 (I know they sound a lot by they aren't) episodes don't feel so epic. Even though they matter down the line. But after that, it's epic Arcm, finished, next one is even better. We had Alabasta which was epic, THEN we get an even better one skypiea, THEN even freaking better Enie's Lobby and finally the curret arc which is even epic...er than the previous ones put together. it's that awesome.
