I need some new anime shows to watch...
I've been out of the loop for a little while, what are the rest of you anime fans on the board watching that is current or new?
I'm a big fan of Death Note, Blood +-, Ippo, Ghost In The Shell: SAC and vampire stuff for the most part...spy stuff too..
Any suggestions?

Only new stuff?
I'm a fan of the older stuff... could name off a few from the previous generations if you desire. Of course I kind of have offbeat tastes.

I'm a fan of the older stuff as well, ranging from the early 80's and beyond, I'm just curious what people are enjoying now so I can check it out. Every once and awhile a new series comes out that blows my mind, like Death Note.masteroftheclaw wrote:Only new stuff?I'm a fan of the older stuff... could name off a few from the previous generations if you desire. I started watching Full Metal Alchemist. I'm only in the beginning but it's fairly disturbing and in complete contrast to the art style. The story is incredibly dark and I think it's currently being remade to be more faithful to the comic book. I introduced it to a friend who has never watched any anime since dragonball. He saw the first few episodes and was amazed by the maturity of the themes and ended up watching the entire series in less than week.
Re: I need some new anime shows to watch...
I haven't watched a lot of anime lately, but there are a few semi-recent ones I've seen and liked:
Dennou Coil
Noein
These two in particular are very good, especially if you like both sci-fi and slice-of-life stories. They start off slow, but once you get close to halfway, the scientific theories and technology present in these shows will really make you think, and will probably blow your mind (especially in Dennou Coil's case).
As for availability, Noein's been out on DVD for a few years and the box set is pretty cheap ($20-ish). And if possible, try to watch Dennou Coil in HD. The animation is THAT good. (The show's currently unlicensed, but available via SD and HD fansubs)

It looks like you're really into action packed anime and so am I but I have to say Clannad Afterstory is the best anime I've watched.
Re: I need some new anime shows to watch...
I second both of these as some of the better shows I've seen in the last couple years. Also:Yukima wrote:I haven't watched a lot of anime lately, but there are a few semi-recent ones I've seen and liked:

If you want a good, deep, thought-provoking story, then try Kino's Journey [a.k.a Kino no Tabi]. It's one of the best Anime shows I've watched it a long time, and it's 13 episodes, so it's short enough to watch in a day or two. I highly recommend it.

Darker than Black was pretty good and in the same sorta genre as what you mentioned. Baccano was OK. Gungrave is a little older - I enjoyed it too.

MUSHISHI (my favorite anime! I HIGHLY recomend this to everyone that wants to know what good anime is. even more thought provoking than kino's journey so lisalover1 i HIGHLY recommend this to you as well.)
MONONOKE (nothing to do with the movie princess mononoke. very strange look to it but it grows on you!)
Great teacher Onizuka (anyone who is into anime should watch this classic!!!!!!! it's one of the best shows ever!)
battle programmer shirase (very funny show with a good plot line)
black lagoon (this is newer but it's full of hardcore action)
i also agree with kino's journey and darker than black. it's sequal series isn't so great though.
