Nonsense! The 60gb PS3 is the most prone to failure of all the different iterations of the console but I wouldn't say it's doomed right out of the box, nor would I say to ditch it.

Myself and three friends all have 60gb PS3's from launch and they see heavy use and are just fine.

Not like the 360 which is more or less guaranteed to fail at some point...

Right, I agree with what you're saying, not everything fails. However, I'm trying to point out that he bought it from Gamestop, which limits him to return it for only 7 days officially. If something goes wrong after that, his only real option is to get a refurb after a long wait.

Nick did mention in a later post that he has a long relationship with the store, so he's probably OK if something goes wrong.

Nonsense! The 360 is no more prone to failing than the PS3. They suffer from the exact same fault, bad solder on the BGA. Keep them both cool enough and both systems will run until the caps fail on the power supply. At that point you buy a replacement power supply (luckily this is 100000x easier on the 360 due to it having an external one)

Wrong, GameStop has a 30 Day guarantee on all of it's products, Used or New.

If his 60GB PS3 breaks we'll find him a new one no questions asked. If the store refuses demand to speak with the district manager and ask them why the store you're at it refusing to follow company policy and find him a replacement or have one shipped in from another store.

Actually, you're wrong. The return limit on used games or systems is 7 days. Read the fine print on the back of your receipt. I checked with 3 different stores and each told me the same thing. If you read back in the thread, I explained my situation.

You're right in that it is up to the district manager. What happened was when I brought it in, the manager explained that I only had 7 days to return it, since it was used. This is the same for games. I was lucky enough that he was a good guy and immediately realized I was getting the shaft without me having to point it out, called his district manager and got the OK to take the return and issue me a return so I could get a Slim.

So why am I stressing the 7 day return limit on used products if I didn't get screwed over by it? See below.

What I didn't mention before was that I went out to South Street Seaport in NY to buy the 60 gb. This was out my way, but they had it, so I trekked out there. When the the machine really started acting up, I decided to take it to the Gamestop on Broadway during lunch, which is closer to my work. The manager at that store was ready to pack my PS3 up to mail in to Sony after refusing to exchange it for a Slim. This is when I found out the details of the return policy, which he highlighted for me on my receipt. I refused to let him ship it out and decided to take it back to the store I bought it from, hoping for better treatment. (Its a smaller, more out of the way store.) I was right.

If anyone is in NY, go to the store at the mall at the Seaport, everyone there is really helpful. The store on Broadway at the NR stop on 8th Ave however is the definition of a rude NY shopping envirnoment. Avoid it!

Lastly, if your buying anything used from Gamestop, you have 7 days.

No, you're wrong buddy, I WORK FOR THE FUCKING COMPANY. Read the back or the reciept and you'll see that it clearly states & Day reutn and 30 exchange and guarantee on all New and Used products purchased at any GameStop, EB Games or other affiliated store nationwide.

You've been on here long enough to know who I am.

What happened to you was you were screwed out of it either because of:

A) They had one but one of the employees had it so it was conveniently "Just sold" or they "Couldn't find it" for you.

B) You were being a jackass to the guys running the place so they just said fuck it and screwed you over. After all from what you wrote all the guy at the counter from the first store did was point out the return policy in it's entirety just so you would know in the event of any future mishaps.

C) It's fucking New York, why the hell are you expecting quality customer service at a packed store?

Well, you've certainly "schooled" and proven me wrong. I'm sure everyone is as impressed with your misspellings and profanities as I am. I gave Nick a heads up and that's all I wanted to do. I wasn't trying to pick a fight or damage your fragile ego. Apologies.

Back to the topic at hand, here is another forum thread over at IGN, in which a Gamestop manager states the 7 day return policy on used consoles. The 30 days he is talking about is an exchange, for another used/refurb 60gb PS3. If they don't have those in stock, you're waiting till they do.

mrmmonty: "i work at gamestop. (infact im a manager) our return policy is 7 days for cash and 30 days if it does not work. As far as what you get with it: you get the console, 1 controller, av cables, power cable and controller charging cable. you can add a year warranty for like 40-50 bucks. buy the warranty, its worth it. there are not many 60 gig left.

Also, I was polite to all the Gamestop employees I dealt with. I used to work retail and its not my intention to become an incoherent, rambling blathering screaming reject over something as ridiculous as a game console.

As I said before, I check in with a few stores to check out what the manager at the Broadway store told me regarding used console returns. They all confirmed what he said.

I'm done with this conversation. Last time I try to help someone out. I didn't know who you are, but I see that you're a moderator, which is really, really disappointing. I thought you guys were supposed to be level headed?

Dude calm down, it's RacketBoy.

I may be a mod, but that doesn't mean I won't let you flame me if you want to. Free speech and all, you know? There's no way I'd ban or unfaily moderate someone just because I don't agree with them.

If you were a spammer of some sort of unwarranted troll, yes, but for this, no. I'd sooner kick myself off of this place than ban an innocent member.
