Any Boardgame fans?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Unlike videogames, my wife actually enjoys board games and she LOVES card games. We play a lot of Rummikub, Lost Cities, Skipbo, and Settlers of Catan. I also like Jack, Ticket to Ride, and Inkognito among the games I've tried.

hahaha. Here's what a typical game of Settlers of Catan sounds like from outside of our apartment.

"You seriously won't trade me sheep? Just one fucking sheep! COME ON! You have a ton of them!"

"You and your damn 2:1 business."

"We haven't roled a fucking six in FOREVER! Most probable MY ASS!"

"Oh NO YOU DIDN'T just take over my longest road award!"

"FUCKING ROBBER!"

Oh my god, that fucking robber. Last game I played, I monopolized sheep early on, and after that, every time someone moved the robber, it hit me. It was literally the ONLY reason I lost the game, and only by a single turn. I'd have had it if my friend hadn't won that round.

I still had the longest road though. Hell yes.

Munchkin is awesome, that's a regular with my friends. Any game with trivia usually wins me over though, I love random facts and such.

Jame Rolfe (AKA AVGN) Does some interesting Boardgame reviews for anyone interested.

My favorite game in elementary school was Bonkers (the original Parker Brothers one). I picked up a complete copy from a garage sale a while back and finally pulled it out at a game night with friends. It was still awesome. Uno is a nice easy pick up and play game too. I want to get an old Deluxe version with the card tray like my parents have. I played Robo Rally once and it was really fun too. Maybe I'll get a copy some day to play with my friends.

Risk, Axis and Allies currently.

A group of friends is really into Settlers of Catan right now.

I used to play a lot of Dragon Strike.

I grow very tired of Catan in that one of the vocal members of that game group refuses to let the map be created randomly. We will randomly place tiles, randomly add the number chits, then he has to rearrange them so they are "fair." And thus taking away a chunk of the game. This was fine in plain Catan, but in Cities and Knights it is annoying, well that and they unanimously decided to take out the 2s and 12s before I arrived. Going into the game my tolerance for stupidity was already sapped. So when they decided to take three to five minutes a turn, when it really takes about thirty seconds, needless to say I got alittle upset.

When I leave a group where they can do a round of Twilight Imperium 3 or Titan in three minutes with combat, I cant take the five minutes for a turn in Catan.

Octopod, if you ever play Axels and Alloys tell me. I have been trying to simplify Car Wars for a decade and still havent made headway. Ive got a Axels and Alloys ruleset on one of my pcs somewhere, same with Car Wars 1st and 6th editions. I long for some autodueling that I can teach others quickly.

I am glad to see that most of us enjoy boardgames, there is something about throwing a fist full of dice that Ive yet to find a substitute for.

I'm a total ludophile.

But all the board games I have are the standard mainstream stuff.

I wanna get into other board games like Catan and Carcassonne. I love these games (I've got a few clones of them on my PC and iPod Touch) and wanna be able to play them against real people.

I also recreated the board game from Interstellar Pig, though it's still in beta.

Ack wrote:Dune. The 1979 Avalon Hill version. Fastbilly used to tell me how awesome it was, but I didn't believe until I got to play it. Now I say it's hands down one of the best boardgames I've ever played.

I'm also really into Arkham Horror. It's a fun, though frustrating, boardgame based on the Lovecraft Mythos, where players work together to beat the game, or perish before the might of an awakened Elder God. The expansions just make it nastier.

There are some others that I've enjoyed, though I haven't played much. I thought Tides of Iron was ok, and Tannhauser was a lot of fun for me, though I haven't tried the expansions for these. I've tried Descent and Runebound, though I prefer Descent with the new rules, since it pretty much combines the two. I'll play Settlers of Catan, but I tend to end up royally pissed.
Some friends of my gf have all the settlers expansions. That game is awesome. Since I have read all the dune books (except the last couple by Brian Herbert), I really want to play 1979 board game. But all of them I have seen cost a shit ton. Anyone know where some scans of it are? Use my gf's schools printer to make my own (because any one I buy online is going to be missing pieces). Yes I am that cheap.

 Definitely a greatest hits compilation for Settlers.
I'm always down for some board gaming. My shelves are littered with a pretty varied selection of games. When we host game nights it's usually Settlers, due to the simplicity of the core game. Anyone play Shogun or Twilight Struggle?

Dune is going to be republished this year in the Twilight Imperium universe. It is not the same as it being on Arakkis, but Peter Olotka himself told me that it is a solid remake and the closest we will ever get to a reprint.

But to answer your question:

There are a couple dozen different versions for you

Could always make your own copy. I have seen pics of pretty nice homemade ones.
