So I dont derail the other topic too much:
Any of yall boardgame fans?
Ive played them all my life and they pull as much weight as retro gaming with me. From humble Ravensburger beginnings to the latest 10 pound release. I typically stick to American style games (mainly since I like an fair element of luck) and minis wargames (GASLIGHT and Song of Blades and Heroes right now) but am open to anything.
I am in both a weekly and a monthly gaming group, the weekly one is heavy on euros but we played History of the World last night - typically we play Agricola, Dominion, Race for the Galaxy, and the like. The other one is heavy on beginner games (since they are pretty much nongamers), so lots of Catan & Variants, but they have played Nexus Ops, simplified Mordeheim, and Munchkin.
My favorite game of all time is Dune, which I saved out of someones trash, and I have a soft spot for the aMAZing Labyrinth (it was my favorite as a child). But my collection goes anywhere from Titan to Spacehulk to Feudal to Through the Desert.

Dune. The 1979 Avalon Hill version. Fastbilly used to tell me how awesome it was, but I didn't believe until I got to play it. Now I say it's hands down one of the best boardgames I've ever played.
I'm also really into Arkham Horror. It's a fun, though frustrating, boardgame based on the Lovecraft Mythos, where players work together to beat the game, or perish before the might of an awakened Elder God. The expansions just make it nastier.
There are some others that I've enjoyed, though I haven't played much. I thought Tides of Iron was ok, and Tannhauser was a lot of fun for me, though I haven't tried the expansions for these. I've tried Descent and Runebound, though I prefer Descent with the new rules, since it pretty much combines the two. I'll play Settlers of Catan, but I tend to end up royally pissed.

Clue and Stratego are where it's at. I kind of want to start playing Settlers of Catan.

Card games are my preference. Cribbage, Rummy, Pitch, Sequence, Phase 10.
The kids don't seem to want to play board games as much....prefer video games. It's my wife's lament and it's all my fault.

I was never much into boardgames until a few years ago when a friend of mine got me to play a few interesting ones that he has. Now I love them. Unlike videogames, my wife actually enjoys board games and she LOVES card games. We play a lot of Rummikub, Lost Cities, Skipbo, and Settlers of Catan. I also like Jack, Ticket to Ride, and Inkognito among the games I've tried.
"You seriously won't trade me sheep? Just one fucking sheep! COME ON! You have a ton of them!"
"You and your damn 2:1 business."
"We haven't roled a fucking six in FOREVER! Most probable MY ASS!"
"Oh NO YOU DIDN'T just take over my longest road award!"
"FUCKING ROBBER!"

hahaha. Here's what a typical game of Settlers of Catan sounds like from outside of our apartment.Ack wrote:I'll play Settlers of Catan, but I tend to end up royally pissed.

Re: Any Boardgame fans?
My wife loves playing Fury of Dracula with me even though it is better with more people. We also play Monsters Menace America, Zombies! and Talisman.
I just recently sold most of my games off including Arkham horror, Doom the Boardgame and others. I sold my Warhammer stuff to Fastbilly. I still have quite a few actually but noone to play them with. I have a nice unused Gammarauders just waiting for someone to play with. I do have several Taskforce games and some of them can be played solo.
Man, I have a copy of Throneworld still in the shrinkwrap sitting in my closet. I hear it plays like Twilight Emperium.
I'd kind of like to get some Necromunda going actually. I bet my wife would get into that but that is another where it would be cool if other people played also. I also painted and modded some cars for Axels & Alloys and printed out the free rules but have not played it yet.
I guess it is more that I would like to play games than that I actually play them. lol

I've been wanting to play many of the games mentioned here for awhile now, but just don't have anyone to play with
. I'll probably get something on xbl sometime, but I mainly want Ticket to Ride and from what I understand it's not set up well for local multiplayer, just online.
