My local pub has a The Addams Family pinball table. I'm currently grand champion on it with 355m. Took me a while to do that and I still didn't tour the mansion. Just had Skill Shot at max, Swamp at max and Graveyard at max. Kept hitting the skill shots and the Thing Flips over and over. Amongst the jackpot several times. The jackpot on TAF is one of the hardest I've played. The jackpot on the twilight zone never gave me this much trouble (incidentally TAF and TTZ were made by the same person) I always find that the magnet on TAF fucks me over whilst I send balls up for the Jackpot ramp. To get the jackpot you have to do 2 fairly difficult shots rather than one, if anybody is unfamiliar with the game.

I usually average out about 150m per game on TAF. So I spend hours on it with only a couple of credits since I achieve the replay quite often. My friends hate it when I play them since I always own them unless I do something really dumb, but then they forgive me since I usually win them a couple of credits.

Funhouse.

Honorable mention to the Batman pinball from early 90's based on the first Tim Burton movie. It was a lot of fun to play and a self-esteem boost too since it was pretty easy. Shoot Flugelheim!

As far as virtual pinball machines go, I love the Pro Pinball series. I picked them up at GOG recently and they are incredibly well done. They are so realistic that when I was playing them on my laptop on a bus ride, I realized I was getting worried that the bumps on the road would throw my ball off it's course.

Big Race USA is the best of them.

Incidentally TAF replaced TNG at my local pub. I played the shite out of game. Managing several billion high scores. However the Jackpot on that game is ridiculously easy. I got to the point where I never failed to hit the middle hole and the triple jackpot.

I really enjoy many video game pinball games, since Pinball Fantasies on the Amiga to several others I've played. There are some very good table designs in games.

Unfortunately I've never got to play much real pinball. I remember playing a nifty Star Wars based one in the UK, and little else (I know I played some other pinball tables). I don't like playing the real ones as much, one of the reasons is that I can't nudge / tilt it properly (maybe it is lack of practice, or I'm afraid of damaging it).

Sorry and I guess this will seem confrontational, but the House of the Dead pinball game for the GBA (which I like) is not the best example IMO - I don't like the ball physics. The Muppets pinball and Pokemon pinball games on the GBA are better examples.

Visual Pinball has pretty accurate recreations of most good pinball tables. If you haven't tried it yet, you should.
You can get hundreds of tables at pinballnirvana.com
Here's one of the best VP recreation guys' homepage.
