I LOVE the throwback pepsi stuff. When I had regular pepsi, I'd always feel like complete shit after I had one, or the day after I had a couple. It was almost like an addiction I felt towards the chemicals that are in regular pepsi.
After I tried the throwback stuff, the taste wasn't so overwhelming and I didn't feel like a bag of ass. I also noticed that after I switched, for the first week or so my mouth and body felt a bit achy and such... I grabbed a can of the reg stuff and the feelings went away within the hour.
In conclusion, I like how the throwback tastes, plus how it no longer makes me feel like garbage. Note: I usually only had one soda a day, never exceeding 2 cans worth.
Also high fructose corn syrup has been proven to release a toxic chemical after it reaches a certain temperature, which can be easily reached when using cooking products which contain it (like baking chocolate)

I've only had Pepsi Throwback, and I prefer it. Unfortunately, I've only had one can. I'm going to have to stock up before they stop production again.
@Xonticus, regular Pepsi and soda in general sometimes make me not feel so well too.

This version of MD Throwback is different from the one they released last year. Last time it didn't have the OJ concentrate that makes regular MD what it is. They included it this time so you should find it more comparable to the current HFCS stuff.Lokkenjawnz wrote:As someone who drinks far more Mountain Dew than is probably healthy, I hate the throwback version. I tried it when it came out a while back, and it tasted bizarre. It tasted almost grainy, as though the sugar wasn't fully dissolved in the soda, and it tasted way too sweet.
I'd say it's worth a try though, it's definitely a unique flavor.

Re: So what do you think of Pepsi/Moutain Dew throwback?
I think it's wonderful - to be perfectly honest, I think if people on here knew anything about the terrors of the high quanitities of corn-based products Americans consume on a regular basis (read The Omnivore's Delimma if you're curious... which you damn better be - if you ever have time: then they would probably be a little more excited to have one of the major companies offering a non-corn syrup alternative. Whether or not you think it tastes better is purely subjective - I like the way it tastes better personally, but I understand other people will have different tastes. From the perspective of health, though, there's no reason to continue drinking regular Pepsi while Pepsi Throwback is still on the market. I've been buying Jones Cola for years because it uses pure cane sugar as opposed to God-forsaken corn syrup - to have Pepsi offering a low-cost alternative is kinda nice (although it doesn't taste as good as Jones). I don't have any idea what you guys are talking about with weird feelings in your mouth from making the switch, though - I never experienced that when I made the jump from Coke/Pepsi to Jones.
Re: So what do you think of Pepsi/Moutain Dew throwback?
I tried the Pepsi as I was a big drinker of it back in the 70's and 80's, thought it tasted spot on with what I remembered.
All it did was make me despise what they are selling today....

I think for me anyways, my body had a set chemical routine and changing it up made me crave it. I've had those feelings also when I've not had a soda for a day or two, granted it is not as bad when I'm still drinking a soda product like throwback.Original_Name wrote: I don't have any idea what you guys are talking about with weird feelings in your mouth from making the switch, though - I never experienced that when I made the jump from Coke/Pepsi to Jones.
I third the Jones soda recommendation.

I've never been big on soda, but the throwback stuff is great. I might have a can every other week or so, but I absolutely love the throwbacks. I'm not Jewish, but usually during the holiday season, Coca~Cola makes Kosher Coke, that's made with real sugar, aka Mexican Coca~Cola. I always pick some up.

Wait, so regular Coke is not kosher? Can someone explain?Luke wrote:Coca~Cola makes Kosher Coke, that's made with real sugar, aka Mexican Coca~Cola. I always pick some up.
Re: So what do you think of Pepsi/Moutain Dew throwback?

Every late March and early April, for the two to three weeks leading up to the celebration of the Jewish Passover holiday season in the United States, Coke fans living in major metropolitan areas with large Jewish populations get their Real Thing, if only for that brief fleeting period. According to Jewish law, nothing made with chametz (any of a number of proscribed cereals and grains, including corn) during passover may be consumed — so in order not to lose sales from observant Jews during that eight day period, a small number of Coca-Cola bottlers make a limited batch of the original Coke formulation, using refined sugar. Needless to say, stocks run out quickly and fans of Passover Coke have been known to travel many miles seeking out supermarkets with remaining caches.
