did anyone else know about this?
i was watching this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Qu2DhvpydI
now my mind is offically blown
does anyeone know if this trick works on blinking nes's?
i feel like an idiot for not knowing it
That's what I used to do! It works better than anything else. I think my friend Josh showed me it when I was in elementary school. It was the only way to get Ninja Gaiden 2 (my most well-used game) to work. As mentioned in the video, pulling it in and out while wiggling eventually makes a good contact to all the pins.
I used to do this, when I used the original nes. It works, but the blinking can still cause the game not to work. I found that if I pressed reset at the right time I could get the blinking to stop.
The reason this works is because of the reason the NES stops booting; the contacts aren't making contact anymore. Wiggling adjusts the positions of the contacts and allows them to make a connection. The better method is to spend the $10 to get a replacement connector.

Or you can open the NES for free, and use a flat head scredriver or even a blunt knife to bend the pins back to their original place. It's not that hard...
I used to have a crappy nintendo that I kept the top off of so I could drag keys over the contact pins to make cool stuff happen. The times when it didn't freeze the game I could sometimes get new levels to appear.
