Just a question to collectors

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

For me it's easiest to take bits and pieces of other people's posts. Mostly because it's because I have no life. xD
I am very fond of and interested in the evolution of technology, especially computer science, and it's very easy to see how this evolves when watching the commercial market. To make this interest fun I concentrate on videogames and it's use of technology. Video games have great freedom to use many forms of technology that other hardware like televisions or personal computers don't get to focus on because of it's undefined market.
The video game is a very open concept thanks to the option of peripherals and multiple very different systems, including handhelds and unique input devices. GameBoy games like Boktai and Kirby's Tilt n' Tumble that make use of their own little input device for instance shows what kind of technology can be thought of and implemented.
I guess it's the interest on how to be creative with technology. That's what drives me.

I collect because I love playing the games, not just to collect. I've made an honest attempt to beat every single game in my collection, which includes over 650 games.

mas wrote:WOW this helps alot guys I thought it was only me doing this kind of stuff and yeah it is cool just to bring out a system and just pick the game and just play. I'm thinking maybe since the snes, genesis, and nes prices have been about the same in a couple of years maybe I should get the gamecube titles that I always wanted to get even if I don't play them right now I have the game and I will eventually play it once I get away from my 16 bit kick that I'm having right now. It's like my nes phase I got the system and 15 games at a flea market for 30 bucks cleaned the system bought games I once had or that i loved as a kid played it and even though there are more titles i wanna get its put away for now but whenever I see a deal I pick the games up and set up my nes and play whatever i want and not trying to find them at a flea market or thrift shop its right there and yes to think about its got a good feeling to it so thanks to all keep posting
Not to be a dick, and I realize english may not be your first language. Its just some paragraphs would make you posts much more readable and make my eyes hurt less. A wall of text is never a pleasant thing to look at and makes reading your posts a unpleasant experience. Again, I'm not trying to be a dick english know it all, its just a suggestion.

Anyways, you are not alone in your quest to hoard games for no good reason. We all love to collect here and there is nothing wrong with it. Its a proud feeling to look at my shelf and see a vast collection of gaming goodness ready to play.

I collect because I'm interested in the historical development of the videogame medium. I also collect because I can now afford what I could only dream of as a kid. I have enjoyed videogames for as long as I can remember. I grew up as videogames were growing up. I've seen them evolve over time, and as one of the fastest developing entertainment (artistic?) mediums ever, it has been incredibly fascinating to observe and be a part of videogaming's evolutionary process. Having grown up with videogames, I have a different appreciation for them than the average person. When I play a new game, I see it as more than just that game: I might recognize that its core gameplay dates back to the collecting and evading of PacMan, or that its puzzles are the basic item matching of a Sierra adventure game. The more games you play, the more you can understanding videogames as a whole and this pushes me to want to play lots and lots of games and is the reason why I'm such an avid collector.
