Nice pic!
Problem with being a Moderator is that you are always accused of being too slack / being too harsh / being a Nazi mod / being too laid back. No win situation! If you act where you need to you are called an arsehole, if you do nothing so you aren't called an arsehole you are considered a waste of oxygen and ineffective!
One thing is always clear, and demonstrated in this very thread; arguments transfer to other threads quickly and members become locked into "groups" rather than a forum community; this is always bad news: people leave or end up making a forum unfriendly. Be honest, the way the baby thread was evolving was certainly migrating towards "heated" discussion and leading towards "unfriendly", yes? Lock seemed sensible in my view.

Re: locked topics
Ill admit, I am a waste of oxygen. Though if someone flags a message/topic, I will investigate the matter. I average 8 hours on the site a day (it is typically open at work at all times) during the week and 0-1 hours on the weekends.

Why was the Linux vs. Windows thread locked?

It's a spam post. I think the guy had a link in his signature.Luke wrote:Why was the Linux vs. Windows thread locked?

I see that now.
Too bad, it was interesting to see what OS other racketeers use.

I think it is a little presumptuous to assume that everything was leading to a blow out. I'm fine with the lock because things obviously weren't going to come to resolution but I think for the most part it was civil. I was never angry. I suppose my posts don't always come across as nice but then again humor doesn't transfer well over the forum and it isn't universal either. Inazuma is frustrating for sure but he has yet to really piss me off. Sometimes I think the users are a bit too sensitive and the mods react accordingly. One thing is always clear, and demonstrated in this very thread; arguments transfer to other threads quickly and members become locked into "groups" rather than a forum community; this is always bad news
That said the judgment that has been presented by the mods thus far has been great. I don't ever see people calling them assholes or wastes of oxygen either.
Re: locked topics
Absolutely, the Mods here are excellent and also friendly. I mean that.
As you say, humour varies greatly across the world, and people's ages also greatly affect how they see the world and their humour too. It isn't possible (as I have learnt) for people of different ages, experiences, culture and life experiences to all relate to each other, especially on a faceless internet environment where no-one knows you in real life, can't see you, and it is easy to be misjudged or misinterpreted.
I like it here, members are nice, discussions are of a good nature and it is a friendly place to be.
