I finished a platformer!
I believe it is the first game I complete pre-psx era,
and unbelievable to me its Sonic!
First thing first why I never completed platformers earlier on(Snes Genesis type)
1) No way to save, means anything you do is lost unless you complete the whole thing
2)I never knew how many levels shall I go through 6 or 100, how long will I keep playing?
3) No way to know where you are going, you only have limited number of lives and hardly any continues. If you jump on a platform and surprisingly it breaks and that was the last life you got in the final stage, you have to repeat the whole 30-60 min of play just to see whats after that and to die again.
How I did it:
*I looked into a tutorial to see how many levels are there and take notice when I am closer to the end .
*I used the cheat to select levels, to test each one out and know the insides and outsides of the level. So no more surprises, no more need to replay 30 min just to see whats behind that platform.
*Patience, I am not patient, I rush everything, I never ever take my time. I hate slow progress. But i took it slowly
*Being brave, long ago I used to be afraid to jump into unknown areas or make long jumps in fear of losing my progress. With level selector I don't give a damn, I tested out everything.
*I watched youtube tutorial on how to beat the final boss, because I really didn't want to repeat the whole thing from that point+I didn't know how to take down the boss. I only saw the final stage once(1 life) before I completed the game.
Finally, why i never thought I would complete Sonic?
Because Sonic is fast, there are lots of jumps and hoops, many secret areas and double/triple paths to complete the level. I wasn't able to complete the original Mario where you had only to jump from platform to platform, how will I complete Sonic which dashes around and flies in the air with complex level designs.
Comments----
Positive:
*The game is really enjoyable specially do to the control scheme, although gets a bit frustrating at times
*Levels design in the older days had a lot more thought put into them, they are designed in such a way to be fun yet challenging at the same time, and they make sure the experience in enjoyable all along-its for every one no need to split the market hardcore/casual
*The soundtrack is fantastic, specially the Marble Zone one, its damn retro and reminds me of the old days(you don't hear such music now) , its also highly distinguishable.
Negatives:
-I completed the game in 1.5 hours, isn't this too short even for that period of time? Or was the idea to play it over and over , even if you are done with it a 1000 times?
One member in the forum gave me a tip that practice makes perfect, and yes it does!
I didnt collect all the the Chaos Emeralds, what happens?
I had 13 lives , lost 8 of them in the Starlight boss battle.I thought this was it, am not going to beat this.
I never thought the day I complete a Snes/genesis platformer is ever coming!
I will be playing Sonic 2
