I'd really be shocked if it turns out to be a joystick system. The way the kids are holding the input device suggests a controller, and the hairstyles suggest no later than 92.

Yeah, but they also lack some of the scruffiness of the late 70s, early 80s, so I'm thinking mid to late 80s. And with the way they're holding those controllers, it's definitely a console with controller cords that come out the top or bottom, not the side, and likely have a now-traditional layout.
