Also, while "Crystalis" is a name that is very unique, "God Slayer" is f'en metal. I also much preferred Kula World, but maybe that's because King of Fighters has made me like the name Kula.
What, you didn't like Tuff E Nuff's full title, "Hey Punk Are You Tuff E Nuff?"

I don't think Crystalis is a better name, but it's infinitely more marketable here in the west. I know plenty of parents at that time who would never think of buying their kids a game called "God Slayer." Heck, my mom threw away my copy of the Worlds of Power novel "Beyond Shadowgate" because she didn't like the statue on the cover.

Indeed, remember NoA was censoring crosses even when they were appropriate back then.

Yeah, but that was a case of Europe getting screwed on the second round of localization. We at least got similiar titles to Japan. Though if you're going to count Contra, then you also need to include anything from the NES era with Ninja in the title.

In fact, I like the name "God Slayer" so much that I'm going to program a game called "Christ Puncher."
I'll play it.

I just don't like the long japanese titles. All we do is shorten them anyway.

Even if the English title sounds better than the Japanese title, I will usually use the Japanese one. First off, I pretty much only buy Japanese versions of games so that's what I'm used to seeing. But also I like to use the original name because it's the original. It seems more correct to me. Of course, the English translations are also "correct" in the sense that it's the official name for that country and I don't mind if people use them but personally, it bothers me a little to use them.

For games that were created by English speaking developers, such as EA's Need for Speed or Crystal Dynamic's Pandemonium, I don't really care either way. I might call em Over Drivin'/Magical Hoppers because that's what I own and play, or I might call em by their original English names.

A few examples off the top of my head of games I prefer the Japanese title for:

Hikari Shinwa > Kid Icarus
Rock Man > Mega Man
Bio Hazard > Resident Evil
Made in Wario > Warioware
Hoshi no Kirby > Kirby's Dreamland
Panzer Dragoon Azel > Panzer Dragoon RPG

Same thing for the character names in Street Fighter. I prefer to call them by their actual names, instead of the cluster fuck that is the English version. Official English names be damned in this case. It's just too messed up.

I prefer Bare Knuckle over SoR for some reason.

Beyond Oasis sounds better than Story of Thor: A Successor of the Light (!)
Blackthorne > Blackhawk
Out of This World > Another World
Chaos Engine > Soldiers of Fortune (PAL>NTSC)
