A) I only said Xanadu was "pretty good".Limewater wrote:But you liked Xanadu?REPO Man wrote: I personally hate the Underworld films. I didn't see RotL cuz I hated the first two. For the most part, they're just boring underneath all that cool-looking shit.
I'm just giving you a hard time, but seriously, what did you find to like in that movie? Disco kitsch kept me somewhat entertained for maybe twenty minutes, but then the movie had another two hours to go. IMDB says the whole film is only 93 minutes, but I simply can't believe it. I found roller-disco infinitely more boring than style-over-substance vampire action.
B) The Underworld films are just all style with no real substance whatsoever. The story is pretty generic, the overall set design is your standard gothic BS, and who provided the wardrobe for all the characters, Hot Topic? Now look at Xanadu. It's got style and just enough substance to keep it from being expendable. The set design is bright and vibrant, with color and energy surging from it. It's also got Gene Kelly on roller skates and a '40s-style big band playing in tandem with an '80s rock band.
C) In its genre, Underworld is standard at best, with many better films of its kind out there. But with Xanadu, it's familiar yet unique.
