There seems to be a fairly big retro BOOM as of late, people who sell them at flea markets tend to have three frames of mind.
1. This is a old game, this is a collectors item, its worth HEAPS. (These people are total fuck heads, stay away)
2. This is Chrono Trigger, it is worth this much (These people are total fuck heads for trying to sell this shit for what its worth at a flea market, punch in in the back of the neck)
3. This shit is old, you can have the lot for $10 (DING DING DING! Winner, there still fuck heads but we get good shit off them so we like them)
Why do flea market vendors price so much!!!!
Re: Why do flea market vendors price so much!!!!
I've got an indoor flea market by my house that has quite a few "permanent sellers". Most of them have great to fair prices, but there are two booths in particular that overprice a lot of stuff.
Metroid for the NES fro $25? No thanks, I'll walk ten feet over to the next booth and get it for $5 or less.
I did score an NES with two controllers, Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Turtles, and Mario Bros/Duckhunt/World Class Track Meet for $15 from an outdoor flea market over the summer. Probably the best deal I've made at a flea market so far.

I didn't finish reading your entire post either, but the answer(s) to the question of your topic is:
1) Because they can
2) Because they can
3) Because they can
You are not shopping at Best Buy, there is no set price for a product. Once you walk into a flea market vendor, it's obvious why you are there, you want what they have.
Just learn to haggle, and never walk into a deal you aren't willing to walk away from.

I'm still kicking myself for buying Tetris and SMB/Duck Hunt for $10 bucks a piece. It hurt even more when I read an article by a former EB Games clerk about how they had to GIVE away copies of SMB/Duck Hunt for FREE because they had so many copies

I like to call these assholes "horders" or "resellers". Funny this topic came up, I was at the fela market today and I was thinking the same thing.
I think figured out how their little racket works. They come super early and hunt around for other people's junk. Then they buy up popular games like Mario and Donkey Kong and sell them for $10-$20 even if they're common.
Like take today for example. I walk over to this stand, everything is locked up in these glass cases. Right away I notice the selection of games (Zelda, Mario, Donkye Kong, Castlevania, Goldeneye). I didn't even bother to ask prices because I knew it would be overpriced. I've seen horders tell their assistants to "look for any Mario games".
I haven't got any good deals in awhile. Really sucks when you can't find a NES game under $5. Five bucks is fair but I don't want fair lol.

QFT. I was at the flea today and everything you said was right on. They all do just as you said, get there early and get the deals before you, so that they can jack the price. I'm lucky I got to know one of the good vendors so he gives me and my friend tons of good deals.Kevman wrote:I like to call these assholes "horders" or "resellers". I was able to find two things I was looking for though, golden sun $10, and castlevania aria of sorrow $15, not really a steal but pretty good. Plus those games never show up in the wild.

Re: Why do flea market vendors price so much!!!!
Flea Markets are for people that want to make money. Yard sales are for people looking to get rid of stuff. Thats why flea markets are usually overpriced.
Flea markets and Gametraders= super overpriced. I saw a original NES at Gametrader for 60 dollars, and that was the only retro system there, the other ones they had were retro duos and stuff like that.
Oh, and to the guy who said they were selling the original Xbox for 100, wow, I got mine for 15 with 3 controllers and 5 or 6 games. But this was at a yard sale, not a flea market.

I have to say its a market, supply and demand sets everything
those people got this stuff to make money, I do not think they come out everyday just to show off the goods they have.
Once they realize its not selling they are going to lower prices.
One way I find super effective when buying , is to ask to buy a lot of stuff then ask for a huge discount. You can imagine if you were going to pay $50-100 for some guy, he will be making a good dealing selling that much in one day from one customer, so he won't let that pass.
I wish I can find retro stuff in my flea markets.
I wish I knew how to haggle. My dad makes my jaw drops when he haggles, I am not sure how he does it but he gets something like 50% off the sticker price sometimes, I knew he dropped couple a thousands of a $5000 piece of jewelry .
I was once told by some fellows that the best way to haggle is not to really want the thing, ask around and kid around about the price.

I get some great deals at flea markets sometimes not too often. My best bargain deals are at garage/yard sales. I sometimes see games being overpriced at flea markets so I just keep looking!!

I was looking for some SNES games and someone tried to sell me Mario Paint without the mouse for $20.
