Ok, work update, no pics today:

VMU is working fine, no missing lines, etc.

Opened case up several times and near closed case (didn't have to close completely for testings).

The RGB was too dark, removed the capacitors and resistors on the lines (they were recommended in the pinout I found to use them to brighten the screen) - no difference, image too dark. So, made the system work via composite again. Really, there is little or no difference with composite vs RGB on the Dreamcast on a PSone screen. Image now is bright and lovely again. Took a while to work out what the wires were to connect to the system with as everything is enclosed!

Tested using the joystick on Quake 3 - I think it works rather well actually!

One pain - the right shoulder progressive switch didn't work, it did before. Only thing I could think of was interference on the lines, after checking everything else. The wires from the right shoulder button are quite long in fairness, so I attached a second set of wires, shorter ones, to the contacts, and all is great now - can fire in Quake 3 now!

Talking of Quake 3 - tested controls in the game - move forward to pick up a weapon, the rumble really shakes the console quite noticeably, the red LED glows; etc. Same also when fire a weapon.

Boy, looking forward to showing you guys what this system can do in Quake 3 - you won't be disappointed!!

Secured one of the four screw points with a screw, three more to go, then project will be finished....tomorrow....

You've been beaten by the Chinese.

Presumably they had thirty people building one machine, it's bootleg, and playing it will give you lead poisoning.

I saw that video a while back, system looks excellent, however it is a pity there are no details to accompany it, like battery life, specs, thickness of system, weight, etc, etc. It is a very attractive system by all accounts, not keen on the wide screen as it makes games look stretched, however gives more space for components inside. One thing I had to smile about - his sounds a bit like a leaf-blower (compared to other portables), like mine! (with a few fans, and the drive motor and mechanics, quietness isn't possible with the DreamCast!). lol.

There are few portable DreamCasts only about for sure, hopefully more people will make one!

You can have a series of systems DNT - "Steam64" "SteamCast" "SteamSNES" etc. Start making them!

My series is "Into" as you know - "IntoPlay" "IntoGrafx" (had "IntoSugar" on hold when video chip fried), now "IntoDream" next "iNto64" then "IntoSNES" or "IntoColeco" or "IntoNGeo", not sure yet which i'll do as the next one. One thing for sure, my portables are now all red and black; distinctive!

Meant to get this project done this morning, my wife got me to "babysit" her "Cafe World" game on Facebook, and I ended up getting hooked on it for over 6 hours solid

Got case shut ok, however found that in doing so, the system would not run the disc right but would go to the system menu. Something pressing somewhere a tiny bit. After many attempts, thought I had it corrected, however must have made a short instead as system onto goes to system menu now and not run the game, even though the disc is still spinning. No idea why, spent hours trying to rectify issue, however failed. Anyone know what to do? If not, looks like I might have to get another DreamCast console and rip it apart. That means quite a few hours work to do, although nothing like as long as before as I know what I am doing now.

If anyone makes a suggestion that works, I will give you a few bucks - otherwise i'll have to buy a new one...

Quite a setback though, especially as was in the very final part of the project. Means also I have to spend more money on this project now to get another DreamCast, and a few days to wait to get one, and as car boot sales are empty at the moment as the weather is poor, means i'm going to have to pay more money for one now. :(

I will crack this and complete my portable; also, this time around, I can make a few minor adjustments to hopefully make the case a wee bit easier to shut than now. Pain in the butt though, have to do some tiny soldering work again, I guess... :(
