Super Famicom Help

Post by millerjm2 »

I just bought a Super Famicom and well this may be a dumb question but can I use an American R/F (NES) switch for video? If so, what channel do I need to put it on. I searched for an answer but came up with nothing. Thanks for the help.

Yes, but it will probably have to be on channel 90-something.

Why use an RF switch? Buy a proper composite cable. The same one is used for the SNES, N64 and Gamecube. Common as sheep in New Zealand.

Get a new (old) TV? I've heard that some people have had trouble getting Japanese RF hook-ups to work on their TVs, but I'm not sure the reason. I've never had a problem myself, using a Trinitron (from about 1995).

The connector in the back was loose; I should have known. A little waggle and the system worked fine. If the mods deem it necessary, you may close this topic up as I have solved my predicament. Thanks for the help without it I would have never been able to not understand all these horse racing games I have.

The problem is actually very simple. If you look on the back of your Super Famicom, it says channel 1 &2. If you look at the channel options on an American style rf adapter, it says channel 3 &4. Best bet is to use the composite cable, gives the best video and sound quality, imho.

It's still a good thread, as the information about channel 95/96 is here.

Glad to see that everything's working! So... want to by an s-video cable for your Super Famicom? :P (I put the silly face there, but I'm also serious. I don't know how common s-video cables for Nintendo systems are outside of Japan, but they're semi-common here.)

So... why do you have a bunch of horse racing games? Derby Stallion '94 sale, so you thought you'd stock up?

First off I am in America, so it shouldn't be hard to come across some cables; in fact I may have an extra lying around.

The reason I bought the system and the games is, well I am a sucker for in box stuff and this guy had about 40 games in box, including the Super Famicom. So, everything looks really, really nice. I'll try to throw up some pictures when I have a chance and perhaps you guys can help me identify what I have.
