After seeing the video of the worst moments in videogame voice acting, I thought it would be fun to create a thread of the worst moments in translating for videogames.
I'll start us off by getting the classic Zero Wing language butchering out of the way.
What are some other funny moments of poor translation?
The thread have started to move! For great justice!

Magician Lord for the NeoGeo has the perfect 1-2 punch combo of both poor translation and bad voice acting. When this sort of thing happens, I always wonder why the actors that speak English never inform the game makers that the line makes no sense.

In additon to that, I am currently playing through FF VII again. There are quite a lot of translations mishaps in that game. Perhaps they were rushing to release it.

Spoony bard was good considering at the time they probably couldn't properly translate "kisama" without getting in trouble.
And the DS remake of Dragon Quest IV has some really awkward wording of stuff (not to mention the obsessive-compulsive need to make everybody's speech obnoxiously phonetic or bad accent stereotypes). So do Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum (The attack of the foe's Bidoof did not hit!). Maybe I'm just nitpicky.

"Kisama" is just somewhere along the lines of "bastard" or "fool" in a very condescending tone. No trouble there.AmishSamurai wrote:Spoony bard was good considering at the time they probably couldn't properly translate "kisama" without getting in trouble.
