That's just stupid practice, no only does it allow for retarded people climbing high, it also lets quality employees get buried in the mud. What use is that??? Really, what use is it? Oh I get it, it drives the desire for an employee to try to convince a patron to NOT cancel their order, not because the product was good, but because they don't want to be hung out to dry.

So my customer service weighs completely on their desire to not be fired for treating me well. YEY! Shit system is shit system...
Yes, this is seriously something that I wish GameStop would fix. The logic they gave me was "If someone is canceling a pre-order, try to get them to switch it to something else. If they pre-ordered once, they'll pre-order again."

Bull-Fucking-Shit. No one cancels a pre-order for a game they wanted so that they can put it onto another game they want. Every time I have ever canceled a pre-order, it was because I was strapped for cash and needed money.

I was wondering why it said I commented on a thread called "Puppydogs and Unicorns". I'm also surprised this thread got to 7 pages in such a short amount of time.

GameStop I work at doesn't take Gamecube games anymore and doesn't sell them. Which is awesome for me, because often times when people bring Gamecube stuff in, they're just looking to get rid of their games and accessories. I've gotten 6 Gamecube games, an e-Reader, Odama Microphones and other misc crap for free.

This isn't even something I have to do with under-the-table deals or what not - just yesterday my manager gave me a box full of Gamecube crap, telling me it was all stuff that was just going to get field-destroyed anyway.

Anyway, I think a lot of the problems with GameStop lies mostly with the managers and employees of local stores. For instance, my local GameStop is mostly filled with people who know what the hell they are doing... with the notable exception of one dumb-as-bricks Assistant Manager who was hired simply because my manager needed someone to help him out. Everytime we get a scratched up disc, a broken controller, the wrong game in a case, etc., 95% of the time it can be tracked back to this one guy.

And yet, the big wigs don't want to fire him. Why? Because he gets more pre-orders than anybody else in the area. Never mind the fact that most of his pre-orders get canceled - they usually get canceled on other employees, and so they count against the employees who cancel, not the person who did the original pre-order. Thus, he continues to get pre-orders while we continue to get shafted on pre-orders.

I mean, this is a guy who, when I explained to him that he put Grand Theft Auto: Vice City into a case that was supposed to have Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories in it, he replied with "What's the difference?" SIGH.

Next time you get pressured into a pre-order and you want to cancel it, please, look at the name of the employee (it's on the receipt) and call to make sure you come in at a time when that employee is working so you cancel on them. Otherwise, that employee is going to continue getting more hours, higher pay-checks and praise from higher-ups, all the while dragging the store and the rest of the employees in the mud.

from now on, any of the Gamecube stuff that you get that's gonna get destroyed... just mail it to me. :)

Wow, I leave for a few hours and this thread explodes into a monster of hate against GS, awesome!

Trust me I hate the fuckers, but they pay the gaming bills so I have to grin and bear it, at least until the economy gets out of the crapper.

Hell, I wouldn't say I hate them. In my town, GameStop is the only specialty gaming store. I honestly can't think of any other place in town I would rather work.

Yeah, sure, there's a lot of crap about them I dislike (low hours, pre-order cancel deal, stickers all over everything, dim-witted employees bringing the store as a whole down, etc), but I'll take this over working Best Buy or Wal-Mart's electronic section any day.

I don't hate gamestop, they can have some pretty good deals. I just hate dealing with the employees even when I worked there. But for the most part I like Play n Trade better, its a franchise so each store has its own appeal and rules. All I have to do is find the one I like.

Well that's what I meant to infer by my statement.

I don't really have any problems with the Gamestops around here. In fact, I must admit that my most recent trip to the local Play N Trade was much worse than any Gamestop experience I've ever had.

Check this one out:

So my wife, kid, and I walk into the Play N Trade and are instantly hounded by an off-duty employee who introduces himself to us as "Domino Seven". He states that he loves his job so much that he'll stick around just to give us advice... Then he begins to recommend some of his favorite "Nintendo Tapes" to us. One game he shows me is a used copy of MLB 07 for $30. Seriously.

He follows us around the store and babbles the whole time. He even confesses his love for one of the Flavor of Love girls, saying, "I'm gone git 'er, dawg," before admitting sheepishly to us that his real name is not Domino Seven. The only other employee there had some sort of issue with his speech, and nothing he said was audible. I'm of the belief that both guys were mentally-disabled, but one would think that they would be under some sort of supervision -- No manager was anywhere to be seen.

Needless to say, that trumps any negative Gamestop experiences I've ever had. And then I barely mentioned the horrific prices. ($35 for a PS1 console!)

I wish I had a Play N Trade nearby. At least they carry Gameboy games.

Maybe they were just fucking with you? I know I used to go stir crazy when I worked retail...

In any case, that story is hilarious. You should have introduced yourself as Domino Eight and explained you were at the store because you were carrying out a mission to terminate all earlier models. Then you should have offered to spare his life if he'd join your mutiny....

That's really not that bad, especially for retail. You'll often pay $25-$35 shipped for a PS1 if you get it on eBay, the forums, etc.

One of the PlayNtrades I frequent told me they would give me a PSX if I bought a $20+ PSX game. They seriously had 30+ at the time. If they had two copies of Armored Core or Wipeout XL I might have taken them up on it.
