Good License Games

Hmm, I dunno. I'm not a sports guy, but the licenses in those cases are pretty much for the logos and names. The play and theme of the actual game is public domain.

I'm not a jock, but I did play college hockey, and am a sports enthusiast. EA acquiring the sole NFL license was HUGE. Mutant League aside, no sports nut wants to play a sports game that has knock off teams and players. If you are a Cubs fan (which unfortunately I am) you want to play with the Cubs, not "The Chicago Commanders".

Right, but its not like there's a licensed plot to go along with the names. If someone makes a football game with made up teams nobody gets their panties in a bunch unless the team and league logos are too similar. If you make a game about a farmboy from an arid planet who uses a glowing sword to fight an evil army after his relatives are killed only to find out his father is a general in said army and inspires a ragtag group of guerillas to defeat them, you'd better be heavily parodying or some Lucasfilm lawyers are going to come make you a sad panda.

Gamesworkshop got mighty upset with Chaos League. Granted thats fantasy football. I would also like to say Bloodbowl (2009) is a great licensed game. Just a different kind of license than you were looking for.

With most sports licensed games, it's not just one license, but several. One from the NFL, one from the NFLPA, one from Nike, one from Reebok, one from Gillette, etc. It's got to be a headache to put them all together.

have we all forgotten the ton of nes disney/capcom platformers? ducktails, chip and dale, darkwing duck anyone

Man Ducktales was one of my favs back in the day.

Another good one is Thrasher: Skate and Destroy, I just think it was at the time the most realistic skateboarding game of all time, the graphics are crap compare to Tony Hawks but the gameplay aged pretty well, plus the game has one of the best soundtracks of all time (old school hip hop ftw)

This game was awesome! I remember getting to the last level in like Germany where you were a pro and skating that huge pool.

Also, they had a Dune game?! One of my favorite book series, the original 6 at least, haven't read the others by his son.

Yes indeed.. Three strategy games actually (afaik), plus that obscure title from Cryo Interactive which blended adventuring and strategy. And then there was the rather awful Frank Herbert's Dune by WideScreen Games.

I never understand why people don't like the game, I think the game is fun at its own right, plus if you think about Micheal had a decent video game career, he made a cameo in Ready 2 Rumble Round 2 and Space Channel 5, I guess I can say that the Micheal Jackson license is the most successful out of all.
