Good License Games

Post by TheyCallMeTheSwede »

I was watching the recent episodes of the Happy Video Game Nerd, and he listed some good license games including Goldeneye, Ghost in the Shell, ect. ect. it is something that keeps me wondering that if theres any other good license games.

Of course theres these games I could think of at the top of my head

X-Men (Arcade)
Terminator 2 (Arcade)
T&C Surf (NES) - One of the only good LJN games
Spider-Man (PS1, DC)
WWF No Mercy (N64)
Beavis & Butthead (Gen) - Although some people hated it, but think its a fun multi-player game.

Here is a video I was talking about

I don't know about you guys but someone has got to make a article, make a list essential license games, sure there are some various results and its based on taste, but we should at least try.

Oh and one more thing, Super Star Wars is overrated.

These jump to mind.

Star Wars (Arcade vector)
Riddick (at least the first one, haven't played second)
TMNT (arcade)
Simpsons (arcade)

Yeah, Super Star Wars is overrated. But I don't think we could do an article on this easily, because there are actually a lot of quality licensed titles. Consider how many good Batman games there are, or the many Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles titles that are good. And there are a lot of other X-Men games worth checking out. I mean, there are some stinkers, sure. The Rocko's Modern Life game just pisses me off, for instance. But then you've got the many Power Rangers titles(at least two of which are quite good), Bonkers, Dungeons and Dragons, the Simpsons arcade game, various Disney games...the list is bigger than we think.

Two this year - Wolverine and Batman - come to mind.

As for older stuff...

There have been some good Star Wars games (Arcade, Rebel Assault, etc.).

Lots of good Disney games (Genesis Mickey Mouse titles, Aladdin, Lion King
Kingdom Hearts, etc.)

Demolition Man (Sega CD)
Terminator vs Robocop (Genesis)
Terminator (Sega CD)
Stimpy's Invention (multi)
Riddick games (multi)
TMNT games (some of them, anyway)

There are others too (e..g. some of the Die Hard games), but these come to mind first as most licensed games I enjoyed were from the 16 bit era.

Damn, I didn't know that there were Riddick or Rocko's Modern Life Games. Well maybe I knew about the latter a while ago and just forgot as it sounds like it didn't make a notable impression. Are we talking about recent games? I was wondering if the Rogue Squadron games count? I have only played the first one, but it is a great game. Lastly, I didn't know T&C was an LJN title. Seems almost... impossible.

Oh yeah, how about Alien vs. Predator for the Jaguar? Does that game get so many good reviews because it is a good license game or just a rare good Jaguar game?

Nah, Rocko's Modern Life was back on the SNES. It's...not worth playing in my opinion.

yeah, I remember renting that game back in the day, totally not worth it.

Another good one that came to my mind is XIII, that game was hyped up but when the game came out everyone's expectations was low. I didn't think it was that bad of a game, its not the greatest game in the world, but I think it got the job done, plus they got the voice of Adam West

The Incredible Hulk:Ultimate Destruction was a pretty sweet licensed game. There were 2 Hulk games on the PS2/xbox but go with Ultimate Destruction, as the other is your typical crappy licensed game.

Yeah, I really liked XIII, I loved the comic book panel headshots. I had an opportunity to pick up some of the comics a few years back when I was in Germany but didn't do it. I'm still kicking myself for it.

I would also say that The Punisher on PS2 was awesome. Marvel's had a lot of good games. It's had some stinkers, too, but it's had some good games.

Also, anybody know if the DC Spawn game is any good? I've got Spawn on the SNES, though I'm not really impressed with it.

I actually really recommend both of these. The regular "Hulk" game is based on the Ang Lee movie which I thoroughly enjoy (much more than the Ed Norton film), so maybe that's why I liked it. I know it doesn't get much love, but I thought it controlled well and was a ton of fun to play (I played on the PC). In any case, both games are solid and provide lots of tank throwing opportunities to wreak havoc.
