It's not neurotic... it's neurotypical.jp1 wrote:
I suppose I am Neurotic based on this. A lot of these questions seemed squarely aimed at my son who is ADHD so I wonder if there is relation between Aspies and ADHD.
neurotic means - relating to neurosis. Which is a class of mental disorders involving distress, but no hallucinations or delusions. This includes OCD, hysteria, some forms of depression, phobias, and anxiety disorders, amongst others.
neurotypical - is more or less a PC way of saying "normal". It is said to be coined by the autistic community (asperger's is a form of autism, so is tourettes and several others that most people don't realize) as the PC way of saying some one who doesn't have autism.
So falling on the neurotypical side just means you're probably normal.
And this is not just aimed at you jp1, you're just the most recent poster saying "neurotic". Sorry if this sounds like me bitching. But it can cause confusion... very similar to that word "conversate" that seems to plague our nation in the generation.
As for the ADHD thing, I'd like to know... I'm not sure what class of disorders ADHD falls under. I know it's classed generically as a psychiatric disorder, and that it is considered a developmental disorder... but beyond that not sure... it does also have a few sub-types as well, meaning it can be a class of its own. But in the end psychological disorders classes tend to be very generic and different disorders bleed over several lines... but that's more or less our very amateur understanding of the human brain as an intellectual species. I mean really our understanding of the brain is so ridiculous I laugh sometimes about how we can be so certain about these things.
There are studies (and books) out there that describe the similarities and try to link ADHD with autism.
