I've got a red one, still unopened, in it's original packaging.

If you are looking to buy one, put this in the B/S/T thread.

It was only the high capacity cards that lost saves, the 1MB standard ones were fine. If it's got that Sony imprint then you're good to go

I think he's looking for help on how to spot a fake.

Anyhow, just look at the card for the SONY imprint, and look through the clear plastic on the back for the SONY Logo on the flash chip.

Front and back of my 2 PS1 memory cards. I'm not sure where my camera went so I took the picture with my webcam so I apologize for the low quality of the pics.

My clear blue card has the main IC marked Sony, but no crystal (the silver can).

I have a counterfeit clear neon green one that looks pretty good from the top with the printing and molding. However is has a winbond memory chip and a glop top for everything else. The FCC information is printed instead of a sticker, and the molded area that says memory card and lists the model number is a serif font instead of the same sans serif and the printed words "memory card" on the front.

I can add scans if really needed.

hiya Beta + Hobie thanks for your replies , the pics give me a general idea of Chip placement which is good. Hobie if you can please add a photo of the Official Clear Blue Card opened up so i can see the Chip , PCB , and other components that would be great.

i didnt expect such a great turnout in replies , thanks for that Racketboy Forums has a great community

Fake on the left. Notice how the font in the molded area at the top is completely the wrong font.

Real on the right AFAIK. I bought it second hand. Its a little hard to see, but the font in the molded area matches the words 'memory card' as printed on the top.

*edit

Just for grins I looked in my cheapo Gamestop/EB Games card I bought a long time ago. Its pretty similiar to the green knockoff. It has a glop top controller, an SST memory chip, and a few more surface mount caps.
