people have been trumpeting this for a long long time. To me, the gamer, it makes sense. But i don't know if the holiday season actually does give a significant bump in sales vs just releasing it in a month with virtually no competition. I heard on a podcast the head of a game company (i forget who) said they don't want to release in spring/summer because kids aren't in school so there is less word of mouth.

And, in all fairness, this year was better than last at release dates. I passed on a lot of fantastic games last November.

Plus, i do think xbox does recognize this and gives us big releases for the 'summer of arcade.' which is a nice gesture to tide us over for a few days per game, but isn't really what gamers want.

*edit* personally i kinda like it. Although it makes me pass on Wolfenstein which sucks, during the drought of games I usually pick up retro titles, games i missed out on 2 years or last year, and hardware. Things that i wouldn't buy if there were good games coming.

Well, I've been playing it for a couple of days, and I'm actually pretty impressed. Beyond some technical issues I've had with it(upon install it set the refresh rate to more than double what my CRT could handle...), the game's been a lot of fun. Levels are interesting, I like the searching for hidden gold, intel, and tomes, and exploring the cityscape is fun. Also, the store doesn't bug me.

My biggest complaint right now is about equipment. There's a limited supply of gold in the game, so I'm not able to purchase all the upgrades available. While that's ok(there are some items I have no reason to get based on my play style, like the silencer for the MP40), I wish money wasn't limited since I have to use it to purchase ammunition for certain guns as well. It makes me want to not use certain guns because I'm worried about wasting cash.

Beyond that, I don't mind the new storyline. It's interesting, and it does reference older games in the series from time to time, so it still feels connected. I wish the Nazis actually spoke German, instead of accented English...honestly, half the time it sounds like an American faking it, as some characters seem to drop the accent entirely from time to time. I also wish there was a bit more to do in town besides finding items and killing the same group of Nazis in the same places over and over again. I kinda wish there were other WWII weapons hidden in places, but I suppose that's S.T.A.L.K.E.R. influencing me...

Either way, I like it.

I'm a very effiecient player. I went through the whole game without every vistiting the store.

Yeah, you really don't have to. Heck, I've spent about half the game only using the MP40 and the Kar98. But the upgrades do help to differentiate the MP40 with its bigger cousin, the MP44. Part of the reason I decided to go for upgrades was because they just didn't feel any different beyond recoil(which the MP44 felt worse). Now though, I'm using them. The heavier non-realistic weapons, not so much.

I suppose I ought to add, I don't care much for the regenerating health, but that's the in thing right now with the FPS genre, and I've never been a fan of checkpoint saving, so that's two things I dislike about it.

wolfenstein fell into the trap of a game i'm interested in but there was a glut of games i wanted to play this holiday season and it got beat out. Same with alpha protocol, section 8, halo odst (which, i hate halo but i love firefly. I'm torn) and a couple others i can't remember off the top of my head.

I'll pick it up in 6 months when it is 20 bucks.

Uh, Mozgus, I thought you left? You said you were leaving, and that your word was gold, especially on Racketboy. :?
