Retro Cartoons....

I was at the cartoon watching age in the mid-late 90's, so I got up on Saturday to see Pokemon, Pinky and the Brain, That Jackie Chan show, and the occasional showing of Bugs Bunny.

All these old cartoons were great back in the day, but which ones still stand up today?

IMO, the only cartoons from my childhood still worth watching are Ren & Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life, and Animaniacs. From previous generations there's Rocky & Bullwinkle and the old Warner Bros. stuff that's just brilliant.

Kid's today have it pretty great. There's whole networks dedicated to this stuff. Spongebob Squarepants is awesome. I would have died and gone to heaven watching Samurai Jack as a kid. Even Fairly Oddparents is good for a laugh as an adult. Good stuff.

I was lucky enough to still be watching cartoons when Samurai Jack came on . One of the best shows ever. I wish they would make more.

ehh never cared for Big-O i was into DBZ like everyone else at the time

I never got to see it during it's original US run in 2000 (There was no Cartoon Network on Cablevision's basic package at the time, plus I was seven.), however I did see it on [Adult Swim] a few years later when they re-ran it followed by the original premiere run of the second season.

Watch it if you ever get the chance though. It's a great show that has held up very well since it was on the air (And still re-runs on [Adult Swim] every Saturday) plus if you're a Batman: TAS fan then you'll love all the little homages they make to BTAS in all of the episodes as the original producers and staff tried to make it seem as if it belonged in Batman's universe as they were all huge BTAS fans.

Yes, it's my second favorite TV show of all time following Batman: TAS.

I remember in grade school designing costumes out of cardboard for out bikes to look like the lions.

I will have to say that Batman:TAS is the best cartoon series ever! I was a senior in high school when the show began and during college I had my VCR scheduled to tape the show every day while I was in class.

This probably dates me, but I remember watching a lot of Hanna-Barbera Super Friends (superman, etc. at the Hall of Justice). I also really liked coming home from kindergarten to watch He-Man. My kids have enjoyed He-Man on hulu, but I think Super Friends especially hasn't aged too well.

Smurfs, Muppet Babies, Gummi Bears seem to have been staples as I was growing up in the 80s. Probably lots of others I don't remember any more. Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers, the Jungle Book spinoff with Baloo and his airplane, and Darkwing Duck were watched a little later.

When I was somewhat older I enjoyed the new Batman series of cartoons.

Oh man, Super Friends. It's been a long time since I watched that. Wasn't there also a separate Justice League cartoon without the Wonder Twins?

And while we're at it, what about those other classic Hanna-Barbara cartoons, like Space Ghost and Birdman. I loved watching those things.
