I think a big problem with games that have as much hype as HL2 does is that if you dont play it at close to the time of its release the hype surrounding them builds unrealistic expectations.
I found the game very enjoyable and have finished both the chapters released afterward, the blend of adventure and hard story line with a shooter makes me more inclined to finish it rather than 'kill everything that comes' style shooters.
Great game, despite being heavily over hyped.

I love Half-Life 2 so much (it's my favorite game ever!), that I can't understand people who don't like it. I especially don't understand the "too long" complaint. I have always found it annoying how short modern shooters usually are, so Half-Life 2 was a breath of fresh air for me.

I tried playing System Shock 2 recently and despite being a big cyberpunk fan the game didn't draw me in at all, mainly due to its ancient graphics and physics. The same could go for HL2 because it's not future-proof either. The physics are already simplistic by today's standards, and thanks to multiple delays the finished product didn't impress me all that much. Still a classic like the first HL however.

Dude, keep at it... SS2 is peerless. I even find the original system shock worth playing, despite it's awkward, pre quake, fps control interface. I also feel that outdated technology is somewhat ingrained in the cyberpunk ethos - without the punk aspect (read DIY, anti corporate - i.e. not buying the latest and greatest graphics card), it's just regular SF.

While you cant fix the physics, they do have some texture packs that make the game look pretty damn good.Pulsar_t wrote:I tried playing System Shock 2 recently and despite being a big cyberpunk fan the game didn't draw me in at all, mainly due to its ancient graphics and physics.
