Thus none of those casual gamers that Nintendo loves so very much will buy the new thing, and the now alienated "hard core" gamers will not buy the console either because of their lost faith in the company.

That's my opinion anyway, I'm not sure wether I will be proven wrong or right, just my 2 cents.
I'm thinking the same thing. They've basically separated themselves from the accepted expectations for a new console release so they're gonna have their work cut out for them. Playstation and Xbox owners upgrade because they understand the graphical boost and added features, are wii owners going to care about upgrading for better graphics or HD content? They've already pretty much proven that people buying that system aren't interested in those things, and the group that is are probably going to take more of a wait and see approach for nintendo's next system.

Of course they've got some time, this will definitely be one of the longest console generations. Microsoft already had the 360 out at this point in the original xbox's lifetime. And unless they pull something out of the blue, we're not getting a new system next year either.

NES number 1....I feel like I knew that once I saw this thread started. Pretty neat...I cant believe where some of the systems were though. But how could the biggest name in games NOT be number one...atleast in eyes like that of IGN.
Yep, I know im the one ya love to hate.

There's some of us (I'm talking about me) who have had Nintendo systems for 20-something years, along with many other systems by Sega, Sony, NEC, etc that STILL think Nintendo releases the best systems (IE: best and most diverse game library: Notably because of first-party titles perhaps), though.

I can agree, like I said before, the NES was the first console I had...and being that the NES saved video games in general...it deserves to be number 1. But to think of ALL the things that have come and gone...I just wish it would not have been so predictable

Lists are always going to be debatable especially those where the criteria isn't particularly clear. This list is based as much on the quality of games at the time as on their impact in the industry. I think such a list shouldn't include wii, ps3 and xbox 360 simply because they still have many years left.

You can only really evaluate a system well after years have passed after it's run has ended.

In that respect I think the list is pretty good. However if I were to evaluate systems purely on how many quality games they have that I would still play today, the list would be very different and the NES would definitely not be #1 on my list.
