Honestly, I've never understood why they haven't standardized computer game packaging.
MS has tried with the games for windows branding to bring uniformity like console releases have. But like their utter failure of Live for Windows, I don't see it happening. With the exception of collector's boxes and battle chest type things, most of my PC game cases have been the same size whether they were a box or plastic case for quite a while. :?

That's why all your PC games either come in jewel cases, DVD cases or cardboard boxes that are never more than an inch wide o taller than a DVD case.
Thanks for that, Mod Man. Sounds like a pretty good solution to me.
Sadly though the standardization results in some awkward boxes like the Warcraft and Starcraft Battle Chests which are ridiculously long, but could be brought down to size if they were only about an inch thicker.

Hey,

You saying that prompted me to hit the download button. The download is actually high resolution and very impressive. I've bookmarked this site and will look into it more. I hadn't heard of it. I am, however, familiar with replacementdocs.

Peace,

The Cover Project is amazing. But thanks to it I now have an amusing amalgam of PC covers sitting on my shelf, and I still have about 20 games that still need to be cased (no room or covers). Hell, even if the manufacturers won't agree on a standard I kinda wish the guys on TCP would agree on a single PC template.

Unfortunately, just as I love the "Games for Windows" template, there are others that feel just as strongly about the "PC Game" template and others.

It'd probably not be a wise idea to enforce templates anyway. If TCP decided they wouldn't allow vertically-aligned PS1 covers (a la long boxes) or Black Dreamcast covers, I'd be pretty pissed.

Hmm, seeing the7k's work again gets me thinking about going back to my abandoned cover art project. I wanted to do a fancy spine, a centered logo on the front, and the back would just black text. Since most of the time you are only looking at the spine anyway, I thought it made sense. It would save on ink and still look nice on a shelf. Though when I pitched this idea to others they said that I am missing the point of The Cover Project.

Looking at my PC gaming shelf I could use alittle standardization.

True, although now I consider you an unclean heathen for going with the PS1 vert style. :p

I hate the fat boxes. They take up too much valuable space for no good reason.

Yeah, I'm beginning to think I'm the only one who likes the vert style. I just would hate for my PS1 collection to look identical to my PS2 collection, personally. Plus, I've always liked the way long boxes look. I love the retro look, and it gives me a warm sense of nostalgia.
