PC game cases just bug me now.
I liked when we had a consistant size, even though they were cardboard. Now we have some that come in cardboard, some that come in regular DVD cases, fat DVD cases, Games for Windows branding, Ubisofts PCDVD banner, etc. It just really pisses me off. It looks horrible on the shelf, and the different sized cases drive me insane. Almost wants me to go completly digital download where they will all look nice and neat in the wonderful Steam browser.

Having recently bought several PC games of varying size, I too am annoyed at the difference.
But I still don't want digital distribution, as that just doesn't feel like I own them to me.

Yeah,
Honestly, I've never understood why they haven't standardized computer game packaging.
It seems to me that it's always been messed up. I mean, nowadays, how hard would it be to simply have all computer games come in a DVD box like other disc based media? It makes sense, too, because it leaves enough room for instructions and cuts down on shelf space. I mean, the Sega Genesis had standardized cases for crying out loud!
Peace,
manaman

Computer games aren't put out through the same company like consoles are. PC game makers are free to design the packaging however they please. They know that larger boxes will attract more customers so that's why they do it.
The only way I can see everyone agreeing to go with standard DVD cases is if Walmart and other major retailers demand it. I remember hearing something about this like 10 years ago but I guess it didn't happen.
Looking at my small collection of PC games I've bought in the last 5 years, they all are standard DVD cases. But they are all from Sega so that doesn't tell me much.

The demand stated that all cases had to be at a standardized height and width to have adequate shelving for them all.Inazuma wrote:Computer games aren't put out through the same company like consoles are. That's why all your PC games either come in jewel cases, DVD cases or cardboard boxes that are never more than an inch wide o taller than a DVD case.

Re: PC game cases just bug me now.
Yeah, I actually just started giving all of my PC game cases the "Games for Windows" branding, just because I liked the way it looked.
For example:

http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cover_id=8927
http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cover_id=8945
I, too, am a stickler for uniformity.

Remember when computer games use to come in those HUGE cardboard boxes, and then there'd be a CD jewel case inside? I'm talking Windows 95/98 era. I still have a few of those boxes in my basement.

Those look very low quality on my screen. Do they come out nice when you print them?the7k wrote:Yeah, I actually just started giving all of my PC game cases the "Games for Windows" branding, just because I liked the way it looked.

Thanks for that, Mod Man. Sounds like a pretty good solution to me.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote: The demand stated that all cases had to be at a standardized height and width to have adequate shelving for them all.
