Yeah I've just been looking and NTSC games seems fairly plentiful and I guess I'm bidding against fewer people.

I never really had a problem with it until lately I started playing Perfect Dark. The lighting effects make the screen look really washed out and I dont seem to able to adjust the TV to make it look any better.

I wonder why the PAL version was so much worse. I bet we paid a fair bit more than other countries too.

Thanks guys so ill be purchasing a american n64 soon iv seen these n64 passport 3 things around at my local gametraders there like 50 bucks however -___- so would this work on a NTSC 64 and run my PAL games???because itdalso give me an excuse to Import sin and punishment =D

NTSC N64s will play Japanese games but you have to remove the tabs in the cartridge slot otherwise the cartridges won't fit. Don't know about the NTSC N64 plying PAL games in 60hz. I've not got a Passport so I've never tried. Since it's the machine that is clocked higher and not the games I would be fairly sure they would but stranger things have happened!


Regarding the Passport. When getting the passport into this country from play-asia costs more than buying an NTSC N64 it appears quite cost prohibitive. I'd much rather have a native NTSC N64 (the power adaptors from UK consoles work perfectly fine with it so no need for a step down or anything) that can play both my Jap and US games at a much higher quality and at much faster speed than the PAL system. My pal system very rarely goes on unless people want to play a game that I only have on PAL.

I paid £20 for my NTSC transparent green N64 and it came with all the hookups, an expansion pack, DK64, Banjo Kazooie and a bunch of other less noteworthy carts. Plus BK was boxed and in mint condition, the guy threw it in because it was the only other NTSC game he had. This was in a usually overpriced pawn shop too! It would have cost at least that for a Passport.

so how exactly does the passport work? i heard i need a cartridge to plug into the back to override the lock out.

so in my case i would need to buy a random NTSC came cart plug it into the back then ill be able to play my PAL games?

Because if its that simple ill buy the NTSC 64 with the passport there down at my local gametraders for 30 bucks on special for a month or two so ill snatch them up in that case but hopefully the PAL games will run faster but if not meh atleast i finally get good quality that doesnt look like frog vomit

I finally managed to get a decent picture out of my PAL N64 on my LCD TV.
I have initially tried the composite AV wires and messing with TV settings. End result looked like the cat threw up on the screen.
I bought an S-Video cable meant for an NTSC N64 which gave me a better (almost acceptable) picture on my old CRT but a really weird picture on the LCD (like the cat threw up on the screen through a sieve with hexagonal holes).
Today out of boredom I hooked up the N64 by using the S-Video cable, plugging it into a SCART adapter and then plugging it into the LCD's RGB SCART input. For some bizarre reason it looks way better than when I plug it into the S-Video of the TV. It's not perfect but it's miles better than anything I got out of it before.
In fact it rekindled my interest in the N64. I started playing Yoshi's Story and have two things to say: 1. It looks gorgeous; 2. What the hell were they smoking?
