As much as I hate to say it, we are a true minority here.
In reality, the game companies don't give a care about our demographic because we just don't justify it financially.
Plus, they don't really make any money on backwards compatibility -- the only thing its good for is the initial thing of getting people to adopt the system -- BC eases the transition until the big library builds up for the new system.
Sad, but true.

Yeah, I've been working at a GameStop for about 3 months now. I've pretty much stopped feeling bad for the people who shop and trade there - everybody knows about Craigslist, eBay and Amazon. If you are trading games into GameStop, then you just don't feel like going through the hassle of putting up auctions and stuff.

And honestly, it's understandable in many cases. If you had a copy of Madden 07, I don't see why you'd waste your time to put up a craigslist page to attempt to get people to buy it for a dollar when you could just get a quarter from GameStop then and there. Everytime I see someone trade in an Atlus game or something - no sympathy at all. You know you could sell it for more online. You just don't care.

Like racketboy said, we are in the minority. I wanted to buy a PS3 a year or two after it came out, so I had to search for a used 60 gig launch model, since it was no longer being made. The main reason I wanted it was to play PS1/PS2 games. I'll be damned if I buy an inferior model.

Yes, I already have a working PS2 but that looks like shit on my HDTV. The PS3 does a nice job of up-scaling old games. Plus, I really like the unlimited memory card space and easy method of backing everything up to an external hard drive. Being able to play the occasional PS3 game is a nice bonus for me. I have almost 200 PS1 games, around 40 PS2 games and only 2 PS3 games. It's not that I hate PS3 games. I just don't see the point in spending $70-$80 for brand new games when I can wait a year or 10 and buy it for a hell of a lot less. For games I want to play online, I'll spend big and buy them new but that's the only exception.

I have no intention of buying a non-launch model PS3 or PS3 slim. Taking away features = no sale from me. Oh, and the $24 piece of plastic vertical stand is fucking bullshit.

Did any one see the pictures of the Slim model yet?

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002I0J4VQ/ref ... _fe_exp_1/

I looked through the last page and didn't see any links, I didn't feel like reading through it all. Amazon sent me a "hey, look at the PS3 Slim!" email this morning.

I'm kinda pissed because I have a 40GB model right now, and I regret buying it. I would have rather paid $100 less and got a bigger hard drive, since I don't have backwards compatibility anyway. Bullshit.

Yeah, for the people that got their PS3s recently, I'm sure this news is filling them with regret. I bought mine 2 years ago, so I'm not feeling anything.

Also, the hard-drive thing isn't really that big of a deal. You can always get another hard-drive elsewhere for dirt cheap.

Yeah, but I mean, $100 LESS for a BIGGER hard drive... if you can see what I mean. I know I can upgrade the HDD, but I'd have to buy one on top of the $100 more I paid.

I think I bought my PS3 last summer, can't really remember.

Is this the earliest a remodeled console has ever come out? Seems rather fast to me.

Let's think, it's coming out about 3 years after launch. The NES2 was 8 years after launch, the SNES2 was 6 years, the Genesis 3 came 9 years after the original Genesis, with the Genesis 2 somewhere in the middle (I can't find a reference), plus things like the CDX in 94 (5 years after Genesis 1) and the Nomad in 95. The PSOne was 5 years after launch, and the PS2 Slim was 4 years after launch. I don't count the Saturn models as redesigns, as the only cosmetic difference is the buttons, and the internal difference really only comes down to mod chip compatibility.

So yes, this is likely the earliest console redesign, though I wasn't able to figure out when the Genesis 2 launched.

I'm seeing a pattern with Sony.

Well duh, everyone was screaming for a price cut. So they had to release a Slim model earlier

I agree completely especially with this point, 90% of our clientele at GS are midless shitfaced drones that just love to get the latest FPS and same rehashed gameplay with a fresh coat of paint regardless of quality or gameplay.

It always makes me sigh when I see the posters in the window at Game stores that say "trade X game for Y for only £15!" when X is a game that came out literally last week and Y is a brand new game. I think to myself, who are these people who buy a game for £40 then trade it back a week later for £25? Are they idiots? Do they just like spending £15 on what is essentially a rental? Wouldn't these people be better off getting a lovefilm (I dont know the alternatives you have for internet unlimited rentals) subscription for £5 a month?

I wouldn't be able to work in Game, I seriously don't know how you do it Mod_Man. I'd just be telling people left right and centre not to waste their money. I couldn't let it slide on a moral ground. I know it makes me seem like a jerk sometimes but I generally know a lot of loopholes or little quirks on how to get things cheaper and I tell everybody I know about it if I know they are paying over the odds for stuff. It seems half the people I advise take my advice and the other half just shrug it off like they just can't be bothered to save money

[/rant]

Trust me all I do is tell people not to waste their money or to get good games, but most of the time they either just don't care regardless of how hard I try or they look at the box art or back of the case to a great game like Katamari, Wartech, MadWorld, Conduit, House of the Dead Overkill, Earth Defense Force 2017 etc... and usually say "That's gay/stupid/queer/retarded/a waste of money(ughhh)/too repetitive looking/the graphics don;t look good enough etc... etc... I could literally go an all day with all the idiocy I've seen in my little over a year working for the store that mostly promoted and created the modern mainstream gamer mindset.

Sigh....but I still love gaming and the paychecks aren't too bad, so I stick with it, plus the few times that I've gotten people to change their mindset for just a moment where they try and then end up liking a quality title is a nice bonus.
